That noise will never grow old. Although you just can't beat a 6500 redline V8 with a nice H/C installed....

This video shows an operational cutaway of a BMW S1000RR — a 193HP superbike — bumping against its 14,200 RPM redline. A cam and valvetrain at 118 cycles per second is an amazing sight (and sound)

Could be fun to have that engine installed in a go-kart...

Ever since I learned in high school auto shop how a four stroke engine worked, I found it easy to understand.
But it amazes me to this day how fast it works. |

As you look and watch, a couple points. The power stroke was originally the weight of the piston and rack coming down ( weight and vacuum from fired hydrogen mixture cooling) No spark plug. Ignition was a sliding block ( slide valve) that literally cut off a piece of the hydrogen flame and transferred it to the combustion chamber. Engine speed is controlled by restricting the exhaust gases. This engine is a replica built by Wayne Grenning Want entirely too much info? Here you go An original Otto Langen engine at Rough and Tumble it's the third oldest running atmospheric engine in the world and the oldest in the Americas |

L O N G tyme ago, up on Pa. I saw a display of those Otto engines and many others, some museum not so far from Carlisle.....York??
neat....... and when used to electronics, the frequencies are just super slow by my standards....figger 600 rpm idle speed on an IC engine.....div by 60 that ten per second, so every other go round of the piston is 5x/second firing the plug, or 5 cycles per second, 60 cycles is power line freq.....so yeh, modern machines are in a HURRY!!!!! |
