Default For the vegetable farmers

It's only late May, and I'm already eating out of the garden--green beans, turnips, kale, and chard. Here's the rest of my anticipated bounty:

Tomatoes.

Tomatoes are about 2" in diameter, and the plants are loaded

Summer and Winter squash.

In less than 2 weeks this miniature zuchinni will be ready to pick.

Sweet corn with green beans planted between the rows. Beans like being planted with corn. I have 2 planters of corn, about 50 stalks in all.

Edible soybeans (Edadame). 10 times better than the ones in stores.

Pears. I also have apples, peaches, nectarines, and plums.

Blueberries. I have 12 bushes in all. They freeze quite well; I'm still eating some of last year's crop that was frozen.

Not part of the garden, but I've been planting pachysandra as a ground cover under my Bald Cypress trees. There are about 900 plants in this area, and I'm not quite half done. 2,000 plants in all.

How's your garden doin'?

I've let mine go, I found out that I'll be moving again shortly. I've gotten broccoli, radishes, onions and zucchini out of it. I wont be getting anything else.

That's what I'm hoping. I've get them no more that 12" apart, so presumably in 2-3 years it'll be filled in. I got these plants out of Pennsylvania, and they are very healthy. They're already getting bigger.

Why not? If you put your garden in raised beds, you can grow a ton of stuff in a very small space, if space is the problem. Don't want to sound too preachy, but not only is the food good, gardening is good for the soul.

Well, that sucks. About not having a garden, I mean. Are you up to having a community garden with your neighbors? Maybe find some City property and see if the City will cooperate?

Sounds like you already have a lush garden of Maui Wowee.

Your garden is way ahead of mine. We had a really late spring.

Nice garden, do you use chemical fertilizer or pesticides? All organic? Lots of good eating there. Think I'll have a big tomato sandwich after looking at that!

It hasn't quit raining long enough to get much planted. The farmers around here are way behind schedule.

No, even though it's practically legal here.
Last year I built raised boxes similar to yours and had a nice garden. Season here is later than yours. So far I have planted tomatoes, zuchini, various kinds of squash, carrots, onions, radishes, various melons, beets and I have a few huge artichoke plants that are huge and already producing. By july I will be trading stuff with the gang at the local coffee shop. We all grow stuff and trade. Things are just starting to come up now.
It's cheap, fun, and I know my vegetables have no pesticides on them. I am fortunate to have an army of lizards in my yard that seem to eat all the bugs. Birds were eating my early sprouts (they especially like beets) so I put brightly colored pinwheels in the boxes to scare them off. It seems to be working.

I also grow roses and put them in vases throughout the house.

The only thing I use is Sevin, which (I think) is organic certified. Miracle-Gro is the fertilizer, sprayed on and soaked into the ground. I've never had a problem with tomato blossom-end rot, but I add calcium anyway. I can't wait for my first 'mater sandwich either! All my tomatoes are heirloom varieties--Brandywine, Mortgage Lifter, etc. Maybe a little 'meatier' than the hybrids.

I forgot to mention my melons: Ambrosia, Jenny Lind, and Amish canteloupes. The Jenny Lind is a small, green meat melon that is super sweet and delicious.
