Keystone be like;

36" Outside Diameter Pipe.
.500" Wall thickness.
Carbon Steel Pipe.
The pipe is manufactured by Double Submerged Arc Welding. The pipe is basically a flat plate rolled into the shape of a pipe and the seam is welded by the DSAW process.

I worked a 5-1/2 mile steam line in the early-80's. At that time it was the longest steam line in the US feeding steam from a coal fire plant to a paper mill. Steam and crude are obviously significantly different but pipe is pipe.

The welders themselves can probably make one 36" pipe weld in an 8 hour shift. That's AFTER the joint has been fit up and accepted by QC.

Yeh, my welder buddy spoke up about being in a pipe all day welding something very close to his face.....he being inside the pipe all day long..... he is in mid 50's now, and so it's a tad much on him....

Most of the time, not always, but most of the time you're not going inside a pipe unless there is a repair to be made. Even then it's pretty unusual.

I can't seem to find any information on NDE requirements for this Keystone piping but I'm sure it's more than a final visual. They may even radiograph (X-ray) a percentage of the welds.

Thomas, I think they x-ray ALL the welds these days. Every time I see a ppl installation occurring in the Houston/Texas area, I always see the x-ray truck right there. With liability being what it is these days, I don't see how any company building a inter or intrastate pipeline would NOT protect themselves by examining every single weld made. Every connection point is a potential failure, and that includes bolt-ons like control valves, stopples, casings under road and RRXX's, etc.

I'd be surprised if it was 100% X-ray. Possible of course but I highly doubt it.

Nuclear doesn't X-Ray 100%, nor do refineries. MANY welds in these places is simply a final visual. I'm sure they Mag Particle or Die Penetrant every weld however.

Typically, it works like this; They'll shoot 20% of the welds randomly and lets say one of mine had an indication. Then they'll look at another one of my welds and if IT is bad? I'm gone. Adios bitch.

If Canada can't sell oil sands to us they will sell it to a country that Xiden is more fond of... That being China.

^^^ Bingo! There are already pipelines everywhere.

One thing that's not been mentioned in this thread, and that people who grew up in the eastern half of the U.S. don't often know, is that the fed gov owns very large parts of many western states. The fed gov owns 28% of all land in the U.S. but it's heavily skewed in the west. In some western states the fed gov owns more than 50% of the land - and they pay no property tax. The states have no authority to tell the BLM, FS, or whatever other fed agency owns it how it can be used.

There's no valid reason for the fed gov to own 85% of Nevada, 65% of Utah, 50% of Wyoming, 60% of Idaho, or 35% of Colorado - but they do.

While the sentiment is generally accurate, if the goal is to ship the stuff to China then it would make infinitely more sense for that pipeline to go to the west coast of either the US or Canada to avoid having the ships travel around Mexico through the Panama Canal.

It's always about money with the dems. The real answer for cancelling Keystone was ensuring $2B a year for Warren Buffet (one of the larger Dem financial supporters).

The teamsters post is bullshit. The pipeline terminus is at Houston refineries, and there's to be a lateral to Pt. Arthur, to a refinery there. Contrary to the Teamsters' agit-prop, we on the Gulf Coast are VERY skilled at refining shitty oil. Yes, Texas has light sweet crude that is easy to refine, but we also used to refine Venezuelan crude, which is also shitty, shitty oil. We're skilled at how to do that. So the shitty Canadian tar sands oil does indeed come here to be shipped off elsewhere, but we add value. We refine it and ship the refined product, not the raw, shitty crude. So it's not just thousands of pipeliner jobs, patrol pilots, land men, mowers, close interval survey crews, tree trimmers, smart pig integrity testers, controllers, etc., it's all the refinery jobs, as those refineries will have to expand and add units to process the oil.

The other consideration is, yes, the oil is destined to go offshore after refining, but what if there was some kind of emergency, and the US needed that oil. I bet we could make a deal with Canada to buy it during an emergency.

As far as the Teamsters, do they have chapters in Canada? Because if the Keystone gets shut down, there won't be ANY American truckers hauling that Canadian oil. It will be CANADIAN truckers hauling it to their coastline, to load on supertankers.

There's just no justification to shut this down, other than to **** over America, and jab a stick into Trump's eye. How is it that shutting down offshore drilling is going to make America stronger? We still need the same amount of oil and gas, it has to come from somewhere. So we pissed off Canada, who otherwise might have sold us some, and we can't produce our own anymore.....it's just madness.

As I have said hundreds of times, there is literally NOTHING Democrats have touched, that has gotten BETTER. Everything they inject themselves in to gets screwed up from top to bottom. I challenge anyone to name me something influenced or touched by Dems that is BETTER than it was without them.
