I have friends who have a son that has Ausberger's and lives in their basement. He's in his late 20's. They don't have any guns in their home but if they did, I'm quite sure they would have them locked up very well. However, these kids are extremely intelligent. If they want to get at these things, they will find a way. That said, I don't think there's any chance at all that my friend's kid would do anything crazy violent. He's nowhere near as bad off as this kid in CT appears to have been.

bilmem If they made all guns illegal....

And the government gave you 30 days by law to turn them in, or you could/would be charged criminally for not turning them in.

What would you do?

Would you feel it was your duty to do so because the law required it?

Or would you risk being outside of the law, knowing they would say you are a criminal for not following the law.

She was not storing them legally. Yet she still had them.

Do you not see how making a "law" does not prevent someone from breaking it?

Are you now planning on sweeping people's homes to make sure they're storing their weapons legally?

How do you plan to stop this otherwise?

Laws only affect law abiding citizens.

and just what kind of due process would be involved? some 'expert' hired by the state that says you don't get a gun? pass. that's just a govt funded kangaroo court.

some test? if i pass, will you leave me alone, or will you claim the test was flawed, or make me retake it over and over?

some detailed interview? see first item.

how about other rights? free speech? perhaps you should have to submit your thoughts and ideas for approval before you say them or write them? pass.

Made all guns illegal how?

Executive order?
Law passed by Congress?
Constitutional Amendment ratified by the states?

'cause only one of those actions could actually make guns illegal...

And I can assure you that, given the first two, I'd be a criminal.

Given the third, I'm not sure how I'd handle it...but I also believe it's an impossible scenario, so thinking it through isn't necessary.

I keep my guns locked up unless they are on me. However, my kids know where the keys are so that they can retreive a weapon if necessary. The mental issue of the killer aside, my point was that the occupants of a house would most likely know where the keys are to the locked guns.

Over 100 posts, and still not a hint at a common ground proposal from the left on how this tragedy could have been averted.

During the CCW class, the subject of gun-free zones came up. In Missouri, if a business posts a notice that no CCW are allowed on the premise, and you ignore that (or fail to see it) and are confronted, it is not against the law as long as you immediately leave and put your weapon in your car if you wish to return. It's only against the law if you refuse to leave. This includes all gun-free zones except federal buildings and bars, which I would advise very much that you not bring your weapon onto their premises. Restaurants that serve a certain percentage of food are not considered "bars" in Missouri. For instance, you can CCW in places like Buffalo Wild Wings.

Therefore, in Missouri anyway, "gun-free zones" may not truly be gun free zones. The instructor made it very clear *wink wink* that it is NOT AGAINST THE LAW to be found with a CCW in such places, and if you were to use the weapon there to defend yourself or others, you would not be in trouble just because there was a sign posted there - unless it was a federal building or a bar. You also have the right to petition for the right to carry in a given establishment. For instance, you could ask to be able to CCW at the sherrif's office. They'd deny it, but if you were found CCW in there they could only ask you to leave.

I lost all my guns in a boating accident. And if anybody comes looking for them, well, let's just say it's a deep enough lake.
