Default Who else here is on blood pressure meds?

I had to change medicines because of insurance (was on Benicar) which worked great, but new insurance didn't want to pay for it. Got switched to Kozar sp? which I take the generic Losartan and even with increased dosage, my BP keeps creeping up. It worked for a while, but seems to taper off. Had BP taken at work the other day for a physical health assessment and pressure was 158/98. Back in August it was like 128/85 or something like that. I guess the insurance is gonna have to suck it up since the other stuff isn't working. 10 years ago, I would've laughed you out of the room if you said I was going to get high blood pressure. Always something.

I take Lisinopril (ACE inhibitor) and Amlodipine (calcium channel blocker). The Dr. wanted me on Felodipine (also a CCB) instead of the Amlodipine but it gave me headaches. But I don't have to worry about the cost since the VA takes care of whatever my insurance doesn't. Keeps my BP at about 138/85.

However, you should not judge what you should be taking based on what others may be taking. The symptoms may be similar but the cause of those symptoms may be different and some drugs have multiple purposes.

I take Atenolol. I have had a heart attack if that makes a difference. Runs me, I think, $8.00 a month.

I'll bet most men over 40 are running high and are either on meds, or haven't checked. I've been on various BP med since I was 30!
Salt and being overweight are the big culprits, cut those down and it will reverse after a while.

I was on Atenolol for about 3 years. Exercise, cutting way down on salt and caffeine and I no longer require any BP meds. BP stays around 120/80.

I'm not a big salt consumer, but love my coffee.

I was on Toprol for awhile. I'm on Coreg CR now, but I'm still on the high side.

Mine was always great, then around 35 in just went up. Most people trip when they find out I'm on it because I'm fairly young and thin (6'0 160lb).

My Coreg was cheap the first year with a discount, now it's $25/mo.

I've been on Micardis for 5 years or so:
Micardis Information from Drugs.com

but I take the pill and cut it in half. I can't stand taking the full dose since I feel dizzy when standing etc. Half the amount seems to work fine, and my readings are 120/80.

I hope when I turn like 65 or something one leg doesn't get shorter than the other. Watching the commercials on tv about all of the side effects of prescription drugs is amusing. It's like, "may cause limp noodle, bleeding of the butthole, headaches, dry mouth, blurred vision" but hey, your blood pressure will be great!!!!

Hypertension meds will cause ED big time.

I was on Atenolol-Chlorthal for years. I stopped drinking and I got to get off of it. My BP stays at 125 / 80 most days

I guess I'm the lucky one here.....just had my annual physical this week and got and "all good, keep it up" from the doc. Of course I run about 15 miles a week....that helps.

You might not add salt to your food, but the only way to cut down on salt is if you cook your own food from scratch. If you eat out a lot, or eat prepared food at home, you are ingesting way too much salt/sodium.

Was on Diovan, but switched to Lisinopril a couple of months ago. I think the Diovan worked better. Seem to get little spikes occasionally.
