Default Sunday Morning

OMG, I actually get to sleep in tomorrow. I get nearly zero Sundays at home. 76 nights with Hilton so far this year, and after next week, I'm on the road for 4 more weeks.

I agree with you on the first class rant. With the ale carte option, upgrades are few and far between on popular routes, even if you are 1k or the highest tier.

I don't wait for the upgrades, I just pay the extra cash (about $1k/mo). I have my own client that I work on while I fly, so it's just a company write-off for me. My employer only pays coach.

I'm flying to Houston tomorrow, and yes, I paid for a 1st class ticket. Will be a quick trip. Meet in the office Tuesday, fly back Wednesday. Might go into the client site Wednesday morning as my flight is in the afternoon.

But yes, the client only wants to pay for coach but, well, I don't fit in a coach seat. And I'm not as young as I used to be.

I think the plane would fly sideways if we were all next to each other.

You know the difference between a luxury and a necessity?

A necessity is a luxury you have tried.

In the 80s I had a job where I traveled that much. Airports were not as bad then, no TSA. I used to set up print shop franchises. Worst thing was I did not have much notice. I would get a call on Sunday and fly out on Monday. Always had to have my bags packed. I was single at the time, so no family stuff to worry about.

But I could not plan anything in my personal life because I never knew when I would be home. It was fun for awhile and a great resume builder, but I lasted less than a year.

I remember one time when working I got to fly in our corporate Jet. When I came home I told my wife I wished I had NEVER done that .... sets a new level of expectation. LazyBoy type recliners, 10 passenger, drinks, food, personal service - pull car into hanger, walk 50 ft to get on plane, come home to washed car.

I spent over 20 years doing round the world trip at least 4 times a year. Racked up millions of elite status miles . I almost always made my plans 2 to 3 months in advance so I dis not miss birthdays, holidays and other family events. Still missed way to much normal family time.

The kids did have some really nice vacations paid for by the travel.
