Default Exerpts from my benefit plan

  • 401K match 100% to 3%
  • Health for me only is $7.38/paycheck. $191 for all 3 of us.
  • 10 paid holidays per calendar year. In most locations, offices are also closed from Christmas Eve until New Year’s Day.
  • As we value and understand the significance of our employees’ time, dedication, and loyalty, eligible employees can be granted a month-long paid sabbatical leave to provide time to focus on their self-development, creative endeavors, and personal goals.
  • When it comes to time off work, we don’t believe that the number of years you work at a company should dictate the amount of time you should receive. We expect everyone to work equally hard, and we believe that everyone deserves the same amount of time off work. We have an open PTO policy. What does that mean? We want our employees to have a healthy work/life balance. We trust our employees to take time off as needed but do ask for as much notice as possible. All time off needs to be approved by your manager, and each department may have guidelines within this policy.
  • As a company that continuously innovates our client’s business processes and procedures, we want to encourage our own employees to enhance their skills and experiences through additional formal education. The program offers
$1000, $2500, or $5,000 (or equivalent in local currency) in educational reimbursement per year to employees who
have been employed on a full-time basis for at least one year. Policy is subject to tenure, level and approval.

Half of that goes out the window the instant they hand you an iPhone or Blackberry.

I haven't had a true vacation or time off since they invented the god damned things. Serious. I was in Peru and they figured out how to reach me.

The first three sound good, but the rest leave them a lot of discretion as to what you really get. I hope they handle it fairly. I would at least have a few questions to ask about the details of the words in red.

I remember when my dad worked for United Airlines, when he had 25 years of seniority he got enough vacation and holiday time off he could have theoretically taken off every Monday of the year. That plus 1st class reserved space on any United flight for him and his spouse for life.

Best of luck on the new job. I'm sure it will go well for you.

I know there is ambiguity in there, and I simply don't take time off. I actually have a stigma about taking a vacation, cuz it seems every time I do I get screwed.

Just interesting stuff for sure.

At the hospital where my daughter works, employees can gift their PTO to other employees. It's usually done when someone has some sort of crisis in their life, such as people who lost their homes in the recent fires here and needed some time off to find new housing and replace belongings.

I don't know how common that practice is in businesses, but I think it's pretty cool. You may not always have cash to help someone out, but just about everybody has some PTO time accumulated.

The hospital my wife works at offers that and HR screwed it up royally. THEY decided it goes in a pot and they decide who gets it and how much.

Quite a few nurses and other folks donated PTO to a certain employee. It totaled over 150 hours donated to this person ( as in it was to be given to HER ).

HR decided to give her $750

That sucks. The nurses at our hospital are unionized, and I bet they have this policy spelled out in their contract. $750 for 150 hrs would not go over well, since the average pay for an RN here is well over $50 hr. I'll have to ask my daughter.

It pretty much dried up the donations after it came out what HR did.

Where my wife works is a non union, privately owned hospital.

I asked my wife, who is retired from there and she said she's pretty sure it's spelled out in the union contract. The way it works, let's say you make $50 hr and you donate four hrs to someone who makes $25 hr. They get 8hrs PTO. I don't think they let you take it in cash, it's all about getting time off. When my daughter went down to Louisiana after Katrina to work with the Red Cross for a week, my wife donated 40 hrs to her.

My 401k match is better...but your PTO policy is nuts...wow...not that it would do me any good, I get three weeks vacation, going to four next year...and I can barely take all of it given the pace we work...sounds like you've got a good gig coming...enjoy it...

The sabbatical is a cool feature! The unlimited PTO seems to be an increasing trend. Fromwhat I've read it relates to the fact that with our connectiveness we never truly get time off anymore and the fact that the millennials look for a flexible work schedule, it is less about traditional vacation and more about not keeping track of a time card per se. I've also read that unlimited PTO in general yields less time taken off than designated time off, thus the employer wins

I've seen a few companies with similar vacation policies. The only downside is if you leave they do not have to pay anything out for it.
