Default New Camera Outing

A series of take-off shots from a local nest.

I captured these using the electronic shutter which does 20 frames per second. I kinda question the need for taking 20 pictures in one second as each individual photo file is about 50MB. I'm gonna need more storage space I think.

How far away from the eagle were you when you took the pics?

The quality of these pics had nothing to do with the camera, and all to do with the photographer.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when I show a nice pic to someone and they say "wow, you must have a great camera".... as if they would tell a chef "great meal, your pots and pans must be outstanding!"

Still a great looking bird though, even from a distance.....

lately we have a flock of Ibis white birds, long beaks, drill into the sand/rotten lawns leaving holes like a drill press into wood....I suppose picking up bugs to eat..... interesting to watch also.....a few of us neighbors gather out front of my place in the AM, weather permitting, so we watch the 'wild' life---one species chasing another around.....even pets.....

I get that ALL the time.

True story. I was out one morning a couple years ago shooting Eagles with my 800 and some asshat approached with "That's cheating." So, I welcomed him to take a few shots of flying birds. I'd leave all my settings on the camera all he had to do was shoot.

After several fly-bys I told him "Let's have a look at what you got." Out of maybe 100 shot's he managed to get the bird in the frame on a half dozen of them, all but one of which was completely out of focus and the one that wasn't was too soft anyway.

"Cheating 'eh?"

Killer shots! It's amazing how clear the details are with animated parts like the wings.

I think it's impressive that you can get that close. We have a hawk here that l see occasionally perching on my back fence, always in the same spot, just intently scoping out my back yard and my neighbor's back yard. Every time I grab the phone to take a picture, though, he flies off, no matter how slowly I move.

Why do you think I want a clear picture of the hawk? So I can put the hawk's picture on the "lost cat" posters.

Hawks are twitchy and they don’t sit still long. They’re also small and quick AF unless they’re kiting. But that’s usually happening 1000’ in the air.

I've been dabbling in photography for a long time and done landscape, automotive, racing, sports, air shows, astrophotography, etc. but nothing humbled me more than trying to photograph birds in flight. So hard.

Hat's off to Thomas! Just outstanding work.

If the camera truly has nothing to do with it, then take some eagle pictures using your cell phone and post 'em up.
