You say that like it's a bad thing. I still like tubes. Got this hard to find one for Christmas last year.

Tube electronics are still in high demand and fetch good $. Amps, stereo equip, etc..I was at another estate sale last year and there was a huge box of NOS tubes. Some are worth a bit of money and the others I don't think you can give away. I should have bought the entire box though.

I worked in engineering back in the days. Us to use similar boxes to fine tune transistor wave output and shapes for circuitry back then pre gates and amps or chips. late 70's or early 80's
antiques now..... |

EL84's and 12AX7's are still very popular and relatively easy to find. But I have an old '52 Deluxe (5C3) that uses 6SC7 octals that are rare as hen's teeth. Also lucked into a bunch of matched 5881's a while back and bought all that they had.

My folks had a Fisher console stereo from the 50's yet, with the inevitable Garrard turntable, and so that introduced me to the electronics hobby, and so joined in with the local schools 'ham' radio clubs, and got into building my own amps/preamps/control devices, even FM tuners......I grad HS in '62 so obviously this was all fed off of the local .mil surplus electronic gear shop.....then a local NEW parts house....basically next door, right on a good path when walking home from Jr. Hi and HS so for some 7 years a good hobby......my last audio amp was using KT88 output tubes good for about 50? watts/channel RMS heavy as hell......today a 5 lbs auto radio has that mutch power......
KT88, EL34, 6L6, 12ax7, 12at7, 6u8, 6cw4, 6gh8, etc.......then on to the likes of 2n107/etc....... YUP, I'm a GEEK!!!!!!! OH, I forgot about my stereo speaker building, many sets of speakers, ending with a pair of cabinets over a yard tall, 2' wide and some 18" deep, FOUR 8" speakers in each, along with a tweeter array..... some years later, when I had a REAL job, I started buying McIntosh gear,....fron tuners through speakers....... |
