Default Collectible .45's -- Al Capone's favorite .45 --1911

The granddaughters of Al Capone are selling various family items including Al's "favorite .45" which he used a few times to save his life.

Dig deep, starting bid is $50K and is expected to go for $100K to $150K. Oh, don't forget the buyer premium of 21% when you bid.

I wonder about the legality of that thing changing hands... the serial number appears to be missing?

It does have a serial number. I'm not sure how short they were in the early 1930s . It may be blurred out for the auction due to someone copying the number to sell "Al Capone's favorite .45" later

As near as I can determine, all Colt 1911s ever had the serial number stamped just forward of the right grip panel, Al's gat has the number on the wrong side of the frame. Some very early guns also had the serial stamped on the slide as well....

Auction ad says 'partial' serial number, meaning the rest of the serial number is missing. Some makes and models of guns never had a serial number at all. Those awkward target sights on the 1911 look counter-productive for fast self defense work. Guaranteed to hang up on clothing or the holster, and impossible to make a snap shot with.

I noticed that!

Course as Al was around guns a lot, I would not call him a gun person in regards to his knowledge of them.
