Default Telecommute.... how is this possible for me?

So, we have been told to prep for telecommuting over the next few weeks, possibly through the middle to end of May.

I run the tech support department for one of the campuses owned by the college I work for. There's no way possible for me to work from home given what my job is. I mean, I can monitor trouble tickets and give written instructions for some things, but most have to be hands on fixes that only i or my team can do.

I guess there will be some considerable ****ing off going on

Some of our management team is working strictly from home while others are deemed "Essential Personnel" and are required to be hear daily.

I'm one of the lucky ones that has to be here everyday.

We're in a similar situation. We work on embedded systems and need physical access to our hardware and labs in order to do our jobs. Productivity will be in the gutter for at least 2 weeks.

Anyone up for a drinking party via Zoom?

We're on 100% WFH now. All desktop compute is on VDI and all meetings are on audio/Telepresence. Been prepped for this for awhile.

I still get paid and am not using a VPN anymore. We use a VM that we can get to either via an app or online. Since I’m accessing the VM which is hosted at the college on it’s network, there’s no need for VPN. Much easier.

I finally got the message today from work. They stated that if you can work from home do it. I've been doing it since the 3rd week of February. And now our governor here in CA stated that if you are 65 and over to self isolate at home. I'll be 65 in May, but in my case, I had my spleen removed so I automatically fall into that category of having a compromised immune system. I also was going to retire in May of this year, but now I'm thinking to hang around until this stabilizes and maybe lay me off with a package.

I sell parts for construction and forestry equipment. Customers can generate orders from my business online and we can order remotely but the parts aren't going to unpack themselves at 5AM, receipt themselves or get delivered/billed remotely. It will be interesting to see how this shakes out for our business.

No spleen for me either. Good excuse to continue to stay home.

My son's ex wife does that, been doing the tele-commute trick for many years now, out in Ca. of course, hits the office maybe once a week, if that....she fixes the mistakes for her development team, head of the operation.....she used to wonder about just why they exist......but there is more that just she alone can do, it's the longest description of her work that my son gave some time ago, not long after they married......5 years ago now....

Well, today should be interesting. I was hoping to get a classroom upgrade done today (30 computers getting refreshed) since there's nobody here, but it looks like they will have to stay boxed up in my storage cage until we return. So much for getting shit done while i have time.

Easier said than done. I had to test one new machine before I take out 28 working devices. See, when imaging iMac products, we don't actually image. We do an OS restore online through apple and then the DEP process kicks in to put it on our domain and add packages (software) that's assigned to each container in AD where the computers are put. The Adobe CC products didn't download properly, so I'm trying to figure that out before I leave today.
