We are currently in Indian Rocks Beach on vacation. Sucks we may have to leave early due to not knowing if we are able to even get back north into Georgia. God bless the folks on the east side of Florida.

Looking out my home office window, I see blue sky, and no wind. Temps should be in the '70's for the next few days.

I'm loading up the truck tonight and leaving Atlanta for Brunswick tomorrow afternoon. I've always wanted to ride one out, so this is going to be the one.

My Ex-wife is begging me not to go. I told her to worry about her boyfriend and leave me the fuk alone. Memories in the making.

My father and uncle survived Camille. After hearing those stories my entire life, I'm going for it!!

Yeah, this thing looks really bad. Slow moving, skirting the coast, already a Cat-4. Good luck!

Hard-blown waves of heavy rain until something in the structure gives way or, even worse, till the storm surge floods everything. But if you must -

I-16 (running E-W Savannah - Macon) has already closed and reversed the East-bound lanes out of Savannah. I doubt they are reversed all the way to Macon, but don't know.
So you should take US 341 out of Macon or just east of Macon. But 341 may also reverse south of Jesup, so check with GSP before leaving.
NOAA 2-pm advisory predicts storm direction changing to NE south of JAX Friday night and dropping to cat 3, so Brunswick should get the weaker fringe.

Thank you!! I have a few GSP contacts that I'll touch base with before I get south of Macon. I've planned a few routes in, avoiding I-16 and using 341 as far as possible. I'l swing north and drop in if needed.

Just one small bit of info on the additional work a hurricane causes. My job in Uncles Air Force involved moving aircraft pallets. Aircraft pallets are 88x108 inches. Often they are stored outside either loaded with cargo or empty. Loaded with cargo, the pallets are placed in an open warehouse on top of three sticks of dunnage. The dunnage is 4x4s that are eight feet long. I was at Charleston AFB, SC back in '04 when hurricanes worked our ass off.

The reason we worked our ass off is due to having to move the aircraft pallets and many other items inside warehouses. So there we were, every person available moving the pallets inside and playing pick up sticks with ~500 pallets worth of dunnage. So, 500x3=1500 sticks. Just moving and securing the sticks was a pain in the ass. Then, we still had the cargo, equipment, and plenty of other things that were outside and needed to be secured either by moving inside or strapping/chaining down outside.

Normally, the main warehouse is organized and everything has a place. After we were done, the warehouse looked similar to a five pound can filled with ten pounds of sausage. We even shoe horned some vehicles inside. Then after the hurricane passes, we get to put everything back where it was and then remove the straps and chains from the stuff that stayed outside.

And to add even more fun to all that, SC was popular with the hurricanes in '04. Iirc, we played pick up sticks twice in two weeks.

Looks like it may be weakening some.

Edit: Actually it looks like it's more like a strong Cat-2 right now.

here near Dayton we're seeing a lot more AF airplane traffic than normal; heard that some aircraft were flown to WPAFB to ride out the storm.

It's intersting that with Katrina... the environ-mentalcases were saying this marked the beginning of multiple hurricanes of high intensiry for every year we don't adopt socialism. Well, it's been 11 years straight since Katrina; Matthew is the first "above a Cat 2" that has affected the US mainland.

Although it's been a decade since the US has been impacted by a major hurricane... it's no reason to not take Matthew serious. A Cat 4 storm (even if the eye stays 50 or more miles offshore) is serious business. The out-reach of winds and rain are quite extensive.

Be careful out there.

4 pm NOAA Advisory lists sustained winds at 140 mph, so still Category 4.

General rule of thumb in South Florida is if you are west of I 95 you should be good if your home is built after 2003.
