He picks up data from one system, and maps it into another. He's a human ETL.

I agree!

It been nice lately, to get down to under a 60 hr. week!

some bosses/companies do not reward extra effort/time. and some people do not want to trade their time for extra benefits and pay. they are quite content with their balance of time worked and money earned. they will faithfully do their assignments, year in and year out, for as long as you want them to, but come 5pm, they are heading home for dinner.

others, such as Dinky, have decided that they will trade more of their time for more rewards.

neither is right or wrong, they are just different. the challenge to the boss is to figure this out as soon as possible so you can put people in the best place to benefit the company.

mr. 40 hour likely looks at Dinky as a money grubbing, no life, workaholic. maybe he watched his father work all his life and die at 60, never retiring, and has decided that he wants to be able to see sunsets from his deck while he drinks a beer and have time to do hobbies on Saturday.

and Dinky looks at mr. 40 hour as a lazy, time clock watcher who is letting so much money slip thru his hands.

me?

i might wander down to the shop later and un-clamp some things. expecting company later! they are staying for dinner, will crash in the guesthouse, and then i'll make breakfast tomorrow morning for all. my bills are paid.

It's not completely about money, in this past project's situation, it was about the customer, protecting my employer, and successfully finishing the project. If I were a 40/hr a week guy, this project would have run for another 4-5 months. Unacceptable for all involved.

In better news, word just came out that the client has decided NOT to bring in 4 more years of data! My roll-off from this project happens at the end of the week! So looking forward to something new.

Oh, and Dinky.

when you are at the worker bee level, you don't get to see the bigger picture. all you know is what gets plopped on your desk everyday.

you aren't included in profit sharing plans, you don't get stock grants. you show up, do your job, get your paycheck, and you go home.

big picture? never heard of it. he just does what is required of him. and the world needs those guys. they don't create internal squabbles about who will get the next big project. they don't fight over the last bonus dollar.

not everyone wants to be a manager, nor is everyone suited to be a supervisor. they have enough problems just managing their own work and life, they have no business telling 20 others how to do their jobs.

You don't have to be just a data guy to be in the salesforce ecosystem. There are tons of roles, project manager, engagement manager, technical architect, solution architect, ... and many lesser roles. The education is free for the taking for those who want to dip their toes in. (link in my other post) It's a very cool, and flexible platform.
I might have to look into that.

all smoke and mirrors.

you just pour all the 1s and 0s into a bucket, put a lid on it, carry it to the next room, and then pour them all into the new computer, being sure not to spill any, nor to get any in the wrong places. done. pay up sucker!

There are days when that's exactly how it works.

That can be done on two monitors. When you get to the tests/quizzes, you have the original content on one, and the active test on the other.
