Default Merry Christmas to us!

Just got word that insurance is going to replace our roof due to damage from Irma. We've been wanting to replace it for some years now, and before the storm, prices were around $40k. After the storm they were in the $60-70k range. Now we are only responsible for the deductible.

It's a pretty large house, 3k under air, my massive 3-car garage, and a massive Lanai and pool bath. Roof is quite complex, AND is tiled. I believe the structure's total footprint is more like 5,400 sf.

A nice black-and-shocking-pink checkerboard pattern would really make your house stand out.

$3-4k/year for 23 years? Pretty much exactly what they are paying for the repairs. I had jewelry insurance that paid off nicely on my Rolex when I fell on it on the racquetball court.

I'm not a big fan of insurance, but happy it wasn't a difficult process.

We had the same happen to us. We needed a new roof on a 2600sq ft ranch with attached garage. A hail storm came and it only cost the $500 deductible. Also got new gutters and down spouts.

We had a terrible time with insurance after Super Storm Sandy......just put 250K into the place and had to fight to get 170K from them.....but they take the $ every month from you
Glad you didn't have that trouble

We actually used a roofing company with an insurance expert on staff. He's done the whole process, and has done numerous houses in our neighborhood as of late. SO MANY people just went and paid to have their own roofs done, since many of them are 25+ years old. Very glad we went this way.

Your best bet there is a tornado or a frat party.
