Feel for ya. Southeast of downtown Orlando. They are building a mega apartment complex near me on Hoffner, adding further to overcrowded schools, traffic and resources already at the max. Now I am hearing that another 400 unit complex has been approved for Bumby/Curry Ford area. I am at my limit here. Been looking at east Tennessee, but have concerns regarding availablility of medical care as we are getting close to our 70s. It is also overwhelming to consider packing up a 2800 square foot house, my garage/shop and 4 cars for a move.

Throw away the crap... I just cleaned out the attic at my parents house and there was 50+ years of untouched crap up there. We looked through some stuff, and threw it all away. I didn't want any of it, neither did my sister or any of her kids. People do not keep or want the family "heirloom" stuff any more.

It was hard on my Mom to see it all thrown in a dumpster, but she understood it was time to get rid of things. It is easier to do it now than wait for someone else to have to sort through it for you. Once it is all gone, you will find that moving from 2800 sq to 1400 sq makes sense and is easier to do for everyone.

The OP needs to "man up" and come up with a plan to move elsewhere, the worst things is aging in an area that circling the drain and being trapped in your own home and vulnerable.

Yep, Oakland used to be nice. My family was in citrus since the mid 1800's, so knew a lot of the grove areas. My parents are buried in Gotha and I can't beleive how much everything out that way has changed.

I'm working on a plan, but when the heavy equipment rolled in and started ripping out the trees I've watched grow since I was 11, I figured it was better to cry on the internet than open fire on all the leaches destroying the place. Plan is to get my godforsaken cars running, then start getting rid of everything. Found an old friend who buys/ sells all sorts of stuff from junk to antiques and will probably start making stacks for him to buy up. Goodwill wants to pick and choose what they take, so to hell with them ever again.

Indeed. That “report” is utter nonsense. Completely void of facts. There are sea walls in key west that have the same tidal markings they have had for 100 years.

Mobile homes, ranch homes and older homes not updated have been living on borrowed time for over 50 years.

Newer structures in The Keys are the strongest on the planet, and none have first floor living space.

Yes there are still some cheap, safe places to live, my bro-in-law lives near Muskogee, OK and its peaceful but boring as all hell and you have to go to Ft. Smith, AK for many things (medical, big purchases, etc.). And its either sleet, flooding, baking, etc for weather.

As to people exiting Florida a total BS story, last year 1,000 people A DAY were moving here and that was before last winter's brutal storms, prob 500 more a day now....trouble is they are ruining the state.

Just a little anecdote for you: I met "Bill" when we were teenagers, can't remember if we were 18 or 19, but in that range. He was best friends in High School with a guy I was good friends with in college. I stayed friends with him for decades, families getting together for weekends at the shore, BBQs at each other's houses, you get the picture. Bill started out as a part owner of a moving company, it went well for a long time, but eventually the business was played, and he changed jobs to be a realtor.

In 2014, I wanted to sell an investment property I owned, so of course, it seemed natural to hire Bill as my agent, right? The guy tried relentlessly for more than 5 years to **** me over on the sale, and I kept trying to get him to be reasonable, you know, us being "friends" and all. By the time 2020 rolled around, and the pandemic bullshit was raging, I went with someone else, and the deal got closed in a few months. Bill has never spoken to me since.

Lesson learned: Realtors are not your friends, and your friends shouldn't be your Realtor.

We just finished eliminating 3 generations of collections from the mother-in-laws house. A 2 year project. Most everything gone, house has been sold. We are starting on ours next. We will get rid of a bunch of stuff.

Not directly. What's changed is there is now an acute housing shortage in many areas, driving housing costs up - especially for single-family homes. As more people get priced out of buying a house the demand for apartments goes way up, stimulating the construction of new rental units.

What's worse is the monthly rent in many places for an apartment in/near the suburbs is about the same or more than buying right now. Guess why I'm looking for a new place....

With interest rates like they are now, purchasing has damn near come to a halt for those looking at finance options. The good thing for buyers right now, they can make some pretty good demands and just about get what they want because it is a buyers market right now.
