There Went Paradise
I live on the street I grew up on. Family moved here in 1972, but had worked the area all the way back to the 1800's. House is on a small street with only 7 houses total, on half acre lots. I lived out west for a time, and when my parents passed away moving back to a rural setting appealed more than living in a city full of crime in California.
In the last 5 years they've built 3 major apartment complexes within 2/10's of a mile from us. Our dead end street now has ghetto looking losers walking up and down it 24/7. Their dogs crap in our yards, thy drop trash, they yelling back and forth at the friends and some have started to walk up to houses and try car doors. Across the street is 11 acres of lightly wooded and swamp land. The last 5 years the owner has been quietly filling in the swamp area illegally. Telling anyone brings blank stares and no action. Now he's sold it and they're building 35 houses on the land. Plus (what a benfit!), they didn't want to spend the money for access to the nearby highway, so our street becomes access to the whole stinking mess. It already takes as long as 25 minutes to get out on the street with all the apartment and school traffic! The happy spanish speaking construction crews are today ripping down all the oaks I've spent my life watching grow, blasting in and out of the property and throwing dust and dirt all over the place. I can literally tell it's hotter on the street today than ever before. We're going to get baked with all the concrete they'll be adding. We're in the county by 30 yards, and I suspect if they haven't snuck it by, we will soon be in the city with all their attending fees and laws. **** Oviedo, it's NOT one of the "Top ten places in America to live" as they advertise. (Took me well over an hour to go 8 miles yesterday.) I'me so stressed I can't function. The Wife got a job 40 miles away and we would benfit from living closer, but I just can't even begin to see where to start. I never wanted to move again- that's why we moved back here. I hate developers. I hate Seminole County. I hate the never ending invading hordes destroying this state to live here. |

Give the FL bashers about 5 minutes to post in and agree that FL is full of losers, what they fail to realize is the losers are moving in from their state.
Thankfully in Broward County we developed about 90% our allowable land, 70% is protected Everglades, 30+ years ago, not much develop here except tearing down the old and going high-density. Orange, Seminole and Osceola county will never be the same, as a great area for those looking for affordable housing and endless jobs. |

You need to move. Life is too damn short. You have the memories and that will have to do. Time to make new ones.

What you describe sounds horrible. Time to get out. We looked at lots of places in FL before moving to Amelia Island. There is a lot of preserved green space under perpetual conservation easements. The entire island's dunes are still in place and it's illegal to touch or build on them. No retaining walls anywhere on the ocean. No private beaches. Nothing over 30' high can be built. Lots can't be combined to build a trophy house, which John Grisham learned the hard way. Want to cut down a tree larger than 6" diameter you need permission, which is hard to get, and nearly impossible for live oaks. We have the oldest bar in FL, the tallest dune in FL, and get to live on a beautiful island that's not getting overdeveloped. |

Sell fast and get the hell out of there before your property value goes into the pooper. I'm willing to bet you are going to be surround by Section 8 housing.

I completely understand how you feel.
Due to piss-poor politics, we left our beautiful home in Dana Point that has everything withing walking/biking distance and an amazing ocean veiw. My daughter now manages the property. Watching from the second story patio, BLM tards marching past our walled-off rear yard headed south down Coast Hwy some years ago was the last card of insanity we were dealt. We left for HI (farm country) to be near family...then the plan-demic hit. Turning many working, productive residents into unemployed meth-heads. Crime skyrocketed literally over night. Our neighbors property was broken into twice. The second time the meth-heads rammed his gate with a car to gain access. We bailed to north-central Idaho. Further away from civilization (over an hour to any real shopping/dinning/airport etc), surrounded by land family owns and resides on. I wish we could have done this a decade ago. The advantages are too numerous to list. Residing in a state with millions in a city/county is the WORST possible place to be... now and in the future IMHO. The world and as a result the US has changed immensely recently. I trust family and the neighbors along our 7mi scenic journey to our small city down below....good people. Trading traffic, crime, masses of people ie idiots for solitude and freedom is well worth it. Plan your escape and execute it! |

It’s everywhere. My small Florida town of 2,000 is now an Orlando suburb with crime convestion and high density housing . A14 year old skateboader was run over down the street and the car never stopped - severe brain injury.

I know I need to move, it just kills me. Really just trying to get a plan of action together. I'm still out of work after a wreck 3 years ago, Wife just got a solid job for her age down in Celebration. 40 miles each way is harsh on her, so I guess down to Kissimmee or somewhere is the plan. But on-line websites have zero available even slightly fitting our needs. This house is paid for, so we'll be looking at selling it to pay for the next place. Just not sure how to trust relators after the last few years. Was supposed to have a friend of a friend get in touch but they haven't yet.
No, I'm not setting up to post a damn GoFundMe link, just know folks here aren't as stressed and often have good insight. |

"Politically correct" can kiss my conservative ass. There is absolutely ZERO doubt that when neighborhoods transition from white to "other" they turn to shit. That's not racist, it is FACT. If they don't like that it is FACT, then they should stop making it ALWAYS true.
Find me ONE neighborhood or community that is BETTER after it went from white to black/brown. ONE example. You won't. It has NEVER happened. If Cumdawg is lurking here, let it be known that what I posted right here, will be the post that gets me the perma from CFOT. |
