The battleship Texas is of that era, is the only surviving example of that era, and is, as we speak, being renovated in dry dock. Truly impressive, especially when you consider that these ships were built over 100 years ago.

Manhattan, Queensboro, or Williamsburg. Looks like a double decker, not sure if those are train cars silhouetted on top. The only other bridge that would have been on the East River at the time would have been the Brooklyn Bridge, but it wasn't a double decked bridge.

The article said the picture was taken from the Manhattan btidge, so it's one of the two remaining bridges?

A buddy told me he was in the Navy 1962-1966. He said the first time he was at Pearl Harbor he wondered why there were large tree trunks at the harbor entrance? He was told that they were extra barrels from the battleships.

Hawaii Five O was been filmed in Hawaii for it's weekly series. Jack Lord the star of the show encouraged the producer to hire military people as extras on the program to put extra dollars in their pocket. It didn't matter what service branch they were in.

Lord attended the the United States Merchant Marine Academy,[6] then located at Fort Trumbull in New London, Connecticut, graduating as an Ensign[7] with a Third Mates License. He attended New York University (NYU) on a football scholarship,[2][5] and earned a degree in Fine Arts.

Lord spent the first year of the United States' involvement in World War II with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, building bridges in Persia.[3][dead link] He returned to the Merchant Marine as an able seaman before enrolling in the deck officer course at Fort Trumbull.[8] While making maritime training films, Lord took to the idea of acting.

You can buy a "Medal of Freedom" with a piece of metal from the Arizona.

I found these when I got the Boker Tirpitz knife a couple of months ago.
