Common treated available from most yards is junk. You can get the good stuff (.80 or 1.25) from some suppliers.
The rough sawn marine grade is excellent. Good stuff that will make you sick if you breathe in too much of the saw dust.

I put up a 100' privacy fence at my old home in Virginia in 1987 and its still there and arrow straight using "salt-treated" lumber; the decking on my 17 year old pier in Florida needs 5-10 boards replaced every summer over the last 5 or 6 years, not holding up well whatsoever. And last year I had to "scab" several joists. Ugh.

Heavy stain helps some but the dang thing has been a constant source of maintenance:
Those who have the budget are going with Ipe or Cumaru. But without maintenance (oil) even those hardwoods are showing signs of aging here in Florida.

We built a dock for a gentleman who was insistent on using cypress decking. I visited his dock last week and after about 5 years the deck boards are toast.

Maybe off topic a bit, but have y'all seen the reality show where people out in the swamps locate and recover long submerged logs, that are apparently very pricey and desirable? What is the allure of that wood? What's it used for? Would those be suitable for bulkhead duty, since they apparently were able to exist underwater for so long?

Wood can last under deep water because of lack of oxygen. That's not the same environment as at the waterline.

Sunken logs are prized because they are old growth. The trees grew slowly thus the wood has a tight grain. Unlike "new" wood from plantations that grow very fast and thus have large growth rings.

That chit is prised.

There is a good amount of it here. Cypress and Pine. We call it "dead head".

Back in the day there were sawmills that floated logs down the Choctawhatchee River, many are on the bottom 100 years later. I actually know a guy who used to dive for them.

I built a home for a man a few years back and we had dead head "sinker pine" milled into T&G flooring in random width and lengths. It turned out beautiful. We never applied a finish on it an I actually saw it last week and it has held up beautifully.

An old family friend fished Cypress logs out of a river and had a cabin built in the hills of North Carolina, with all the cabinetry being that old Cypress.

Zeek Rocks. He's living a better life than a lot of folks. Picking on a guy for being under 6 feet tall is unconscionable. Height takes ZERO talent. It's genetic. Your life is what you make of it, and Zeke is living his best life. Screw you naysayers.

Solid as a rock. Hard on saw blades, like Ipe and Cumaru. The sawdust actually sinks in the water.

Does it get kiln dried and cut? Air dried and cut? Cut then dried? What is the process?

I didnt get a pic, but todays high tide brought the water line to within 6-10 inches from the top of the sea wall. First good storm with a good surge and he's gonna loose that wall. Too bad....he sure put a lot of time an money into it...

Wall will survive, it’s the dirt/fill behind it that will wash out….
