It's pretty damn flat right off the gun with exceptional depth and clarity of reflection. I would let it cure for at least 60 days before sanding... it might get even better as it shrinks in...

THIS^^^^. Plus, thick clearcoat is better than thin at protecting the underlayer from damage and UV fade. If it's even leave it alone.

Not a fan of base/clear systems personally, as I have never seen one last more than 15 years before failing, but that's the new standard/style.
The paint on my '65 GTO is 38 years old and single stage. Didn't see a garage until 11 years after it was painted. Still looks decent. I color sanded my '67 GTO (no clear, just a base coat also) and it took me over 60 hours and I was so worn out I swore I would never, ever do that again. That was when I was 32 in 1993. I'm just stupid enough to think at age 62 it's a good idea to do it on my next job!

According to Mike there are four grades of clear. The cheapest is $100/ gallon (pre-Biden) and last maybe a year, even for a garaged car. The price doubles for grade 2, triples for grade 3, and quadruples for grade 4. Grade 4 is what OEMs use and is considered lifetime paint.

He only sprays Grade 4. If you want something else, go to Maaco.

It's been at least five years and my TBird still looks like the day that he delivered it.

We drove to Mikes with the rented trailer, Baby Doll took "Zippy Truck" shopping while Mike and I put the hood back on. When Doll got back we loaded up and drove back home.

Of course it rained most of the trip, since there's no top on the car. Surprisingly not much is wet. I got the heat on and a fan blowing to dry the seats out, which I had upholstered in leather and convertible top fabric.

Here she sits ready for interior assembly.

Cool. You'll soon have two functional sports cars in the family. Empty-nesting has some perks!

The only toy cars that I will own are 1/24 scale, representing some of the cool cars that I have owned.

At times I think you're as square as Lars is. Times like this. Sigh....

The only cool three wheelers are the Morgan and the Vanderhall.

The 1968 Peter Sellers film 'The Party' has his character driving a 1931-33 Morgan 3 wheeler. Very cool.

Looking at your avatar reminds me of my '61 T bird. The front bumper and grille alone had more fit and finish and raw steel than most modern cars have in total. Those could NOT have been cost-effective to build compared to a Mustang or Falcon. I think the T Birds of that era along with the Lincolns built in the same plant were break-even at best 'prestige' cars. Have a friend with a '56 Lincoln Mk II and it has cast wheelcovers, not stamped. Incredible stuff.

Somehow, I see Yadkin better in a British Sportscar....a postwar MG TC perhaps. Pipe clenched in his teeth, plaid motoring cap, tweed jacket with leather patches on the elbows, the whole 'Terry-Thomas' thing. Or Perhaps a Triumph TR2 or Big Healy.

The Mark II was a hand-built car and far above a 60's Lincoln or TBird. A good specimen is probably worth $500,000.

Ha! Those are too small. Tiny cars.
