10%+ of them probably have done better than that, but they lost their life to a bottle...

My bride and I did the same thing 2 years ago. After we left I really had mixed feelings.I felt good about helping the less fortunate and at the same time I was sad for the people I helped...........

Regardless, It's a mental illness/sickness... It takes stamina and wherewithal, to not fall into that slippery slope.....People with lesser fortitudinal abilities are more susceptible to addiction....Look at me....I'm a complete moron, but I somehow function...

My Morning At The Soup Kitchen
Good job Jeff.
Sometimes I think it's a shame how we deal with the mentally impaired. |

I think it is always worthwhile to do something like that at least once.
Makes you feel fortunate that you are where you are..and have made good choices so far. |

The ones I think of as basically unemployable are the idiots with tats and beads/rings/crap all over their face, hands, neck, areas that will show for life, and they think they ever get a job?? would you as shop manager, or tech rep, or contractor ever hire one like that? let them loose on a customer's house or be able to turn your back knowing they won't steal something??
not on my dime/insurance, not for a nanosecond.... |

Our church is sponsoring it's annual Coat-A-Kid, Warm a Heart Program today. Our goal this year is approximately 600 families in the Kentuckiana area.
Theresa and I donated a turkey and some gently used coats from our closets. I wasn't able to attend this year due to starting my new job recently, but it does feel good helping someone less fortunate, especially during Christmas. After all, faith without works is dead. "The King (Jesus) will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40 Here's last year's story... Buy a coat, warm a heart Posted: Dec 22, 2010 4:04 PM EST LOUISVILLE, KY (WDRB FOX 41) -- On a brisk Wednesday morning, a line of well over 100 people wraps around The Lord's Kitchen near Dixie Hwy. and Standard Ave. For years, this small West End Louisville church has played Santa to hundreds of Louisville families in need. "We may not solve all their problems, but at least we'll make their Christmas a little bit better this year," says Executive Director Same Watene. "A little" might be an understatement. In just one day, these volunteers will hand out 500 boxes of food enough to feed a family of four. "Yes, they can have a nice Christmas meal," says Watene. "We have some stuffing. We have some canned goods. We have also a ham or a turkey." The Lord's Kitchen is not only feeding families this holiday season, but they're also making sure 750 kids stay warm this winter with brand new coats, hats, gloves, and socks. "We are doing God's work here," Watene to a roomful of volunteers. "This really blesses me and my family a whole lot," says Yulanda Jarmon who received donations of coats, food, and even gifts for her kids. "I'm unemployed and I'm thankful for it. I just don't know what to say. THANK YOU!!" |

......and the more you do something like that, the less faith you have for humanity. The cycle doesn't end, it just gets worse.
