When I was in mid Prince William County, my head was always so wrapped around work, I never took the time to think about getting a metal detector. Probably would have been fun. There's got to be a ton of stuff in those woods. Definitely rode the bike around Bull Run. My favorite place ended up being Fountainhead in FFX. Lots of people, but also lots of room. Just beautiful in the spring and fall.

I was a big fan of metal detecting for years. Not as many historical spots here in the Midwest but a few. Got to detect on Ft Leavenworth in Kansas once. Found a couple of silver dimes and some really cool lead bullets. Found some lead shrapnel that I think were fired bullets? Really flattened and razor sharp, would not have wanted to be hit by that stuff.

Fountainhead is nice. If you don’t stop and smell the roses once in a while what’s the point. I try to make an effort. It’s hard to fathom what happened around here 150 years ago. Been all over area civil war sites. Gettysburg, Harpers Ferry, Antietam, Appomattox, all that and more plus Andersonville during a trip south. I can’t wrap my mind around it all but I know it was real and it is quite humbling if one pauses to think about it.



Do not metal detect any of the sites I took pics. All NPS property.

I was able to visit Bull Run regularly and Harper's Ferry once. Can you even imagine what it must have been like to fight on the ground in HF??? I was in decent shape when I visited and can't believe any army could actually overtake the high ground there. Incredibly pivotal piece of land at the junction of water supply routes. Humbling is correct
