What Color Is Your Neighbor

I only have one family on one side of my property and they are relatives (white). Relatives just past them are also white.

My block is all white, except for my next door neighbor, black. The original owner, my friend, died, and the family sold it to a very nice black lady, who has since married a very nice black guy. They are good neighbors.

The original owner is probably STILL rolling in his grave over that. Had I been in charge, I would have respected the wishes of the dad in that respect.

I have lived beside black families at my last 3 houses and do so now, and the only issue was with the first one in the 70s - they had beagles that would howl like banshees when any nearby sirens sounded.

The cop had to put it out of its misery.

Other than that, great neighbors.

Just counting, shows prejudice.

Similarly, we had a roof leak complaint, many years ago from an inner city customer. The leak was found to be coming for a dog urinating in the attic, where it was trapped….the leak was coming thru the bedroom light fixture!

Saved the animal that day I found it. Walked away from the repair work too.

Live on a private road cul-de-sac of 20 homes. Two are black, a retired Detroit Lion and a Ford Executive.

I live right next to an AFB and it’s a military community, neighbors on either side are black families. Pretty cool but they’re cheap on yard care so keeping my yard weed free is extra hard. End of the block is a white family and that guy started installing his own siding 20 years ago, never finished. Ladder has been leaning against his house nearly the whole time, so could be worse.

My favorite is an older black woman from Louisiana. She lived the Jim Crow nonsense and was a little biased as a result but we get along very well. My wife calls her my “Nubian Princess”. She would make southern dishes and bring them over, making sure to tell my wife they were for me.

Anyway, thirty years later and she’s not doing well now. Dementia and other health problems. Life is a mofo.
