Got Bumped in the Vette :(
Sitting at a stop sign waiting to make a left I hear this loud bump and felt the car nudge forward... Damn. Look behind me a lady in a mini van had hit me. Got out and it wasn't bad at all. I almost just said the heck with it but decided to call the cops just to get a report. Ironically she didn't have insurance or registration info on her (but claims to have it ) so I was glad I chose the above just to protect my self.
It didn't look like any damage on her van and fortunately from first appearances, the Vette just looks like it was bit by a vampire. The bolts holding her front plate on put an indentaton in my bumper. So for any of you body experts out there, will this be an easy fix, or like I fear more expensive than it looks. My biggest fear now is the paint will start to spiderweb. As you can see in the picture below, you can make out right where the bolts hit my car. It was a loud bang so I'm wondering if there is damage I'm not seeing also......... |

I got bumped in my 85 and it was minor, no visible damage..said to heck with it, a couple weeks later large patches on the bumper were spiderwebbing out and it looked like shit.

It's a goner, shoot it. Save the floor mats if you can.

The marks will have to be repaired, the color can be blended, but the entire bumper will need to be cleared. Expect $400-600 minimal. You can probably get it done cheaper by one of the guys that fixes it right there in the parking lot used by dealers. It really needs to be put on a lift and have everything checked out.

Same exact thing happened to me with my '05, including the screw indents. Bumper was removed, repaired, painted and cleared. Looked good as new. If I remember correctly, it was about $700.

Just bolt a license plate there, I'm guessing the holes will line up...

It's totaled. It will never drive the same. Best to give it back to the original owner.

Yep, as mentioned above, deformation of a rubber bumper cover - hides damage; that rears it's ugly head later on. Go through all the paces - as if this were a more serious accident. |

I would have it checked out today. She hit you harder than you think. There are layers of crash foam absorbing material between the rear bumper cover and the bumper bar that have been compressed. Also the rear of the car is on a rail system and probably has slide forward a little bit (or more) on one side or another. You may also have the impression of a mini van in your gas tank.
This one is from a "new" volkswagon... Last edited by Milton Fox; 10-08-2013 at 10:23am. |

Thanks everyone for the information and the laughs. I'm taking it in tomorrow for the initial estimate. I went through the carwash with it today to get it cleaned up and see how it looked. The bolts definately left an impression, but didn't break through the bumper. It's one of those you wouldn't notice it unless you're looking for it things. I know it's there though and want to get it fixed. Looking forward to see how this all plays out... |
