I purchased a used Brothers 9700 laser printer/scanner/fax ( black and white-no color ) for $40 off craigslist about 5 years ago. I've replaced the toner and drum twice now. I just purchased remanufactured drum and toner set for under $24 SHIPPED.
Inkjet printers just sponge money out of your wallet. I had a lexmark inkjet printer before and it was too expensive to use |

Yep, I just read an article that compared pipets and tips in the scientific community to razors and blades, same thing manufacturers hook you in and make their money off consumables

Clark Howard mentioned that the liquid ink in those cartridges equates a price around $9000 per gallon.

I get my ink at www.meritline.com for the last 10 years. I usually get the refilled cartridges if available. Good prices and good service.

Decades ago when the ink jets first came out I was a supplier of a part to HP. We had bi yearly meeting and they explained their business model. The printer's are sold at or below costs. Once you bought the 1st replacement cartridge they were profitable. After 3 you were helping them print money.
