ok, i'll mark you down as one vote 'yes'

once it warms up later, i can carefully mark all the pieces, so they are kept in the correct location, and start gluing up the first sections. tried to avoid same woods touching each other (except where they are book match paired, a theme through out).

final dimensions will be close to 12x21, i'll have to see how it pans out as i glue it up and trim ragged ends. a little bigger ok?

he asked for something special, he's getting something special.

now this one was really special. it had to be glued up all at once, one piece at a time. took a day to plan, a day to build a special gig, and a day to glue up.

and this one was a wedding gift for a relative....they never acknowledged getting it...



it had a wood burned inscription on the edge with the names and the date.

young and spoiled and too busy being herded around by the wedding planner, no time to talk to the guests. we finally found some food, ate, and bailed. don't have time to say hi to your invited guests, guess what, we don't have time to wait around to be graced by your presence after waiting 2 hours while you got endless pictures taken.

wrapped with our name on the package. my name wood burned into the edge. about 12x18. big board (both of the above were 12x18).

i'm glad i'm done attending weddings.

second one: about 3 days of building and finishing.

yours is going to be more than 3 days.

hand made things take time. time to plan, time to do, time to finish. and they are rarely as perfect as factory made things which are cranked out on a daily basis, with quantity being the first consideration.

Mrs. DAB enjoys doing needle work, including counted cross stitch. she's very good at it. she buys patterns from several people who have nice designs. she can spend up to 100 hours over the course of a month or two (while watching football in winter) working on a single piece. the materials run maybe $30-50 for the entire piece. then we get them framed, another $150-250. want to hazard a guess what people would pay for such a thing?

here's one she did last winter:



individual stitches.....thousands of them.....

she did another one a few years ago, gift to my mom, it had over 2500 little beads, in addition to the needle work. took an entire winter to do.
