A friend of mine had a 32-footer with twin 454's that went through 30+ gallons per hour at a moderate cruise speed. He got rid of it for that very reason. I'd give him $100 for gas and it barely made a dent. His current boat has a single engine 350 or something like that. It does just fine on Lake of the Ozarks.

BTW, did you know that Lake of the Ozarks has more coastline than California's Pacific coastline?

Lake of the Ozarks is also the location of the only privately owned toll road in Missouri. It's actually more like a bridge and 1/2 mile of road. Prior to its construction, it took about 45 minutes to drive that 3/4 mile. Had to go all the way around one of the fingers. Cost something like $5 every time you use the damn thing. I was glad when my friends sold their condo and bought a house on a different part of the lake. Super easy to get to their house now.

Well, based on the fuel cost projections we have seen in this thread, I guess DJ could afford to just watch Miami Vice reruns on Netflix, while the boat is docked.

He could also choose to live-aboard. That way, he could take what he would spend in rent or on a mortgage, and take the boat out once a month.

Didn't know that.

Used to go fishing down there as a kid...Usually launched around Gravois Mills. Never ventured much on the main lake, gets pretty rough out there with all the boat traffic!

A few years ago, I saw a Baja pull into a marina in Miami. The guy had the Baja name removed and replaced with a Cigarette logo.

Since 99.999% of the public would never know the difference, he probably got away with that all the time.

He was at the dock maybe two minutes before a few guys that owned Cigarette's walked over and called him out. After few minutes of heated debate, a fistfight broke out. I couldn't believe something as dumb as that could cause a fight.

If I remember correctly, my friend's boat with the twin 454's was a Baja.

I did ride in a real Cigarette boat on Lake Huron or whatever lake is there by Cleveland. That was pretty cool. At one point we were going something like 85 MPH.

It gets really rough, and that's an understatement. Occasionally you'll see someone out there in a 18 or 20-foot boat and I'm telling you, it just isn't safe. The docks around the lake take a beating too.
