Default Shoulder rotator question.

I have bursitis and tendonitis and a slight tear in it. What are the treatment options Monday I go see a specialist.

They're prolly gonna lop it off.

Seriously though, is that something a cortisone shot could help? If so, it'll be the worst 15 seconds of your day, but that stuff is great.

Absent something structural to fix like an A/C joint osteophyte (bone spur) or a complete tear I suspect you'like wind up with PT and NSAIDs, maybe an injection.

Options are surgery or a combination of PT and drugs. I know several people who have had the surgery, and they're not happy with it.

Yes, it's really bad, but it's over quickly and the relief is worth it.

In my case I had a bone in my shoulder pressing on the tendon in the joint. It caused the tendinitis and only surgery helped. Plus they found a hand full of bone chips and other junk.

I don't know, I'm not even sure it's an option, I was playing Internet Doctor so I was just guessing.

I had a cortisone shot in the shoulder. After looking at an MRI I'd brought in, the Doc walks in with a needle so huge that looked like something from a cartoon. But he had loaded a bit of Novocain in the front and the shot wasn't that bad at all. He went in from the back if I remember. WAY in. It was my right shoulder and I drove the vette home (6 speed) with no trouble at all.

I did a little PT, not near what was prescribed and haven't had real problems with it since. 4 years or so I guess.

The pain of the shot was less that the pain I was having reaching for stuff... well worth doing.

Thank you for this I appreciate it.. My shoulder has excruciating pain when I make a bad movement with it the rest of the time I'm fine. My not sleeping well is because of the shoulder pain while sleeping, wakes me up..

I know the feeling... you reach for something a certain way and what ever you had in your hand dropped and you are gasping from the pain. Not good.

When the doc came in, I was completely prepared to hear that I needed surgery but was not prepared to see that needle. I hope you work it out... it was a great remedy for me.

I have had to change my sleeping position though as it was contributing the shoulder pain.

One last note about surgery... my son is/was an avid kayaker and tore a shoulder up pretty bad. Had surgery to fix... cut it open surgery, not a scope, and he said the recovery was brutal. He probably 90% now. Of course he was < 30 when he had it done. Avoid the knife.

I have about the same thing. After suffering with it for about 5 years. I went to the doc last winter about it. Its seems to be worse in the winter.

The Cortisone shot I had hurt like hell for a bit. Then was kinda sore for a day or two. No problems since, feels great. But we shall see this winter if it comes back.

Recovery from shoulder surgery is ( can be ) a long process. It's not a simple hinge like a knee, it's a complex joint.

After two shoulders surgeries, I'm at about 80% strength wise ( I'm 54 ) but still gaining strength

If you do have a partial tear, I would get it fixed so you don't end up with a complete tear. When I slipped on the big lathe at work and had my injury, I'm pretty sure it started as a partial tear. I thought it was just a strain and kept working. It completely tore the tendon from the bone and ended up having two surgeries to fix it. ( one to reattach and the other 6 months later to remove scar tissue )
