my dad kept very close track of all my college expenses, tuition, room, board, books, travel, walking around cash....about 51k in total. my first job paid the princely sum of 27k/yr, so about a 2:1 ratio....now....same university estimates it's about 40k/yr, and starting salaries for engineers have not gone up as fast....yep, kids are screwed.

Correct. As do I. Actually not proven totally until the mid 80's though when enough computer power was available.
