Default NASCAR - our racing sucks, so tune in for our announcer!

That’s their plan.

I have to agree with some of the comments in the article. Nascar is on life support, and a few years down the road when it doesn't pay anyone's bills, it will slip into the annals of history. As one poster put it, the France family has micromanaged it into oblivion. No wonder they want to sell it, but will there be any takers for the sinking ship? As most of you know, I used to be a huge fan, but haven't even so much as watched a race on tv in years. I did have free tickets to Atlanta several years ago, and left before the half way mark. It was THAT bad. When fans can no longer identify with one damn thing on the track, their interest and money will go elsewhere. It is nothing more than spec racing, with a bunch of spoiled rich kids running around the track. Sorry, not my cup of tea. Junior can't save it, and neither can anyone else....

All cars are the same and all drivers are the same; just like James said. Where's the competition?

Moved here in Fl. in May '97, that summer I spent a lot of time in Daytona, bikes, NASCAR, etc.....the race was interesting, I was walking all over the infield, and at one point I was standing near some large fence gates right behind Earnhardt and his crew and others too of course....the gates opened all of a sudden and me and another guy were ushered outta the way of a large push cart full of tire/etc.....we got shuffled inside to the actual pits, and so we closed our jackets and walked around with our arms folded in front, to hide the fact we did not have a REAL pit pass a large hanging plastic with our pix on it, and so we got by for about a hour, just standing back and outta the way, watching all the crews as we walked the length .....so this guard came up and demanded see our pix passes, and he ushered us outta there....no problem....

Neat standing on the infield and watching the cars scream up the high bank oval......

Some time later I went with a then friend who owned a '91? ZR1, yellow, and so the event was a car club and he drove in a parade not to exceed 50 mph or so around the track, single file.....so he drops back to get room and on the straight he opens up, and we hit the oval at an indicated ~130 mph so we near the top and all can see is the tarmac through the front windshield.....so to slow down when catching up to the parade.....I not notice about anyone behind us......the ZR handled it NICE, he wasn't fighting a thing...

This is all concerning news for the companies that make headlight decals, grille decals, intake decals, marker light decals, badge decals...

Jr. and his personality is about as exciting as watching paint dry.

I'm a dinosaur and I know it. We started going to Daytona in 1972 for the Firecracker 400. It was so different back then. I won't bore you to death with old timer stories.

I enjoyed it until they came out with the COT. It is purely spec. racing since then and boring as shit now.

I will watch the Daytona race only because of those old memories it generates.

IMO they should do the things they did when NASCAR did not suck.

Hope this helps.

I've already said it until I'm blue in the face. They don't care what the fans think, and it shows. That car has already left the garage. Nascrap is doomed.

the TV money got so big, and the Frances hoovered up so much of it, that they forgot who ultimately pays the bills: the paying fans who buy the crap from the advertisers that the TV networks sell ad time to. the fans. me, you.

Without Yahoo Fantasy NASCAR, I could GAFF as well.
Other than the really short tracks, the road courses, Daytona, and Talladegga, it's absoule crap.
The France's are so friggin' greedy, that they sued Yahoo to stop them from doing Fantasy NASCAR.
You have to be total greedy morons to do that, as that was the final thing that kept the really diehard fans around.
COT was the last straw and ruined everything, as was said earlier.

Question Mark....???

If you could buy NASCAR from the Frances for $10k, would you buy it, and what would you do at this point, besides hire me, to make it better???

It's a damned shame that every car is engineered to France specs...

That being said, I'll watch the race that is on NBCSN right now, until my wife drags me away to do something.
In the past, I'd stay home and watch no matter what.

read a piece a few days ago about Nascar looking for a new series sponsor, and apparently no one wants to sign on for the whole deal, so they are thinking of going the NFL route, and have sponsors, plural, that get signage/whatnot. but....the teams aren't too happy about this, as nascar is threatening to poach team sponsors away and leave the teams looking for replacement sponsors.

Maybe the Frances can sponsor it for a few years and call it The Winston Cup again, like it should be called.
GOD forbid they put their own money in like every little track owner in the USA does.

they are like the hotel california.

money goes in, never goes out.

need to put on an end of year banquet? better find a sponsor. God forbid that you actually spend $10 on dinner for your series winning driver. that would be $10 of food that little boy France couldn't eat later.

Wait... Disney is interested in the franchise? Oh sure. That'll play well in Kannapolis.

Interesting. Kyle Busch as the wicked witch from Cinderella. Clint Bowyer as Goofy. JJ as Mickey Mouse. Lagano as Elsa from Frozen.

put me in charge.

cars have to be the same size and shape as the one on the showroom floor.

engines same displacement.

gas tank can be 120% of stock

weight can be no less than 70% of stock (no cup holders in back seat).

normal safety equipment required (roll cage, lexan windows).

can add extensions to body work to touch the pavement. rear wing of whatever size the driver wants, but attached to the truck lip.

go.

No restrictor plates. If they are going too fast, make them run skinnier tires. That way they go as fast as they want but would have to slow down for the corners.
