Glad to hear you're safe. I'd have left a runway in my boxers!

He probably doesn't want to (and shouldn't) discuss the actual details because he has to make a full post-accident report to the FAA and shit.

I haven't talked to the FAA yet, but I wasn't Pilot in Command. I am just a traffic and news reporter. I'm sure they will be contacting me.

The only thing I will say was that at the last second, I was worried that the airplane was going to cartwheel. It didn't. The wing clipped the ground and we slammed (violently) into the VASI Lights (Visual Approach Slope Indicator) and destroyed them. Somewhere in there was a prop strike as well.

It sounds stupid, but the world seems a little slower for me today. It was a very odd, and scary, experience.

Oh, and I'm a little bit sore. But no worse for wear I think.

I've been thinking about that for a long time anyway. Not really sure. Heather and I have been talking about moving to a small town and buying a house with some acreage and just slowing down. Not sure if we are ready for it yet, but this was a bit of a nudge in that direction. For sure someday.

The small town life has been good to me. In about two more years I will have lived here longer than anywhere else I ever lived. Don't miss Silicon Valley at all. The weather is a little more harsh here, but is way cheaper to live and very little stress.

on Jan 29, 2009 my phone in my home office rang. it was my boss. "today is your last day, thanks for all your work, please prepare your last expense report and ship back the laptop and other materials. we'll turn off your email access shortly."

done. gone. no mas.

hmmm.....well, didn't see that coming that day, we were finally getting somewhat busy again.

took some time, talked it over with Mrs. DAB, and decided I was done with full time work. about 20 months later we moved from MD to NM. we stuck around MD to take care of Mrs. DAB's mom and her affairs after she passed away. then we had nothing tying us down.

still retired.

check your status. you won't get an engraved invitation from the retirement fairy saying "today is your day", you have to leap when you are ready.

Ain't THAT interesting, in that my sis is 88 now, and she had left the DC region to move to SF living in another town south of there, about 30? miles, decent house......but got tired of it and battling house repairs, so moved back to Md. outside DC and living in an apt. there....along with her kids....Linda and I went out to visit her there, maybe 15? years ago.....took the tour including the Grand Canyon, collected the typical Indian souvenirs.....Her husband worked at Lib. Conngress.....

Glad you're OK. I guess that was enough excitement for a while.

Just wondering, did you do a traffic report on the closed runway after the "incident"?

Glad you're still here to joke with
