Default Lost a best friend today.

And the other one knows who he is.

Becky was one of my race club members and officers, I last saw her just this Tuesday at our race venue to view the space that's finally available for us to use starting in March (we lost access to the site from October to February due to Hurricane Ian). Was on the phone with her last night discussing her new job at the school district, and the stress that the old boss gave her about leaving, till the very end, is what did her in.

Becky was not the epitome of health, but she was only 59. She was brilliant and insanely dedicated to her job. Old boss had agreed to release her on March 6th for new job, and then changed her mind and told Becky that she could force her to work as long as she wanted to until she trained a suitable replacement.

She was in her car this morning, ready to leave for work, and had a heart attack. She was able to call her sister-in-law (her only family left), who quickly got there and administered CPR, but it was too late.

I invested over $5k into her BRZ and have run it with her for the last 2.5 years. I'm going to try and work with the bank to take over the payments. Car is a 2020, and only has 3k miles. I'm going to take possession of both her, and her dead husband's race helmets and keep them with the club. Unfortunately, she was deeply ingrained in our race club and we have a lot a challenges to sort out with various accounts.

I've been best friends with her for about 15 years, and miss her dearly. This came out of nowhere. Now the fun begins on dealing with her estate. Gonna have to move both of our race trailers off of her property this weekend, lest they get broken into.

Miss you Becky.

Very sorry. We are reaching that age where our friends start to pass and it's tough. She was young.

59..... i'll be 60 in April.

if a job no longer suits you: quit. that day if needed. walk out, take care of yourself first.

sounds like her boss was an idiot.

Sorry for your loss
I retired at 62 because I knew my job was going to kill me. Told my wife that I did not want to die at my desk ( like two other employees did) and we had the funds to do it. That was five years ago…never looked back

Just spoke with Becky's sister (ONLY living family) and she could not find her SSN, and can't begin a process of anything without it. My wife overheard my conversation, and promptly reminded me that I gave her a 1099 in the past when she worked for me. We had to figure out the timeline, but I ultimately found the 1096/1099 red forms that have all of her info, address, ..., but definitely her SSN, so that's a HUGE burden off of everyone.

somewhat of a tangent:

after Linda passed away last August, i revised my will and other documents, and also prepared several pages of info that my heirs and executor will need later on.

full name, birthplace, birth date, father and mother's names (maiden too), SSN, listing of bank and investment accts, passwords/codes - stuff like that (i can do a more complete list in a separate thread).

i learned from having to help fill out Linda's death cert that the state needs certain info, including some of the above, before they will proceed with issuing a cert. of death - and you'll need that for many things.

sorry to hear of your loss Craig, she sounds like a special lady who will be missed.

Me as well, I was not going to drop dead doing a job no one really appreciated except for those profiting on my work. My best friend dropped dead at 62 coming home from another late night at work, died in his driveway trying to get to the house and they found him the next morning under a couple inches of snow. No thanks, I retired in 2021 at 63 and have been happier than at any time in my life and I've never been healthier.

Sorry for your loss Craig.
That sucks, and I'm not looking forward to dealing with some of my closer friends as they start passing on either.

I'm planning to retire right after eligibility (plus allowance for tax purposes!) and enjoy it.

Let us know if you need anything.

I retired just a year ago from the local govt at 66. Within a couple months, wife saw a huge change in me not being so pissed off all the time along with a more relaxed IDGAF attitude.

Sorry for your loss.

This is sad on multiple fronts. First you lost a friend. Second, the job thing. It's really easy to say "I don't give a **** it's just a job." But if you're not built that way you can say that all the live long and it won't matter. She was hardwired to GAF.
