The parking brake is like a giant C-shaped brake shoe, similar to the 63-82 Corvettes. The rear rotor has a deep hat that acts like a brake drum. If you have a sticky cable or something out of alignment, that will make noise. I have seen people cook bearings by setting the shoe too tight.
100% correct. GWiz is doing the repair 100% on her own. She got the rotor off and the parking brake shoe fell out. One of the two shoes was dislodged and disfigured and broken. She's running to the store to get the new kit.

Gotta love a kid who knows how to work on cars!

And what is her labor-hour rate in comparison to the book rate at Estero Bay Chevy (without your racer's discount)?

She gets $15/hour, just as if she were doing computer work for me.

It's all done. The kit came with shoes for both sides. She's going to do the passenger side tomorrow.

The noise is clearly very near the wheel, and because it's not all the time, and not a MAJOR grinding, I don't think it's the differential, as I know what that's like from it going out in the Z06. Having said that, I CAN feel a vibration in my butt-o-meter.

My best guess is the bearing / hub assembly has gone bad.

Thoughts?

TIA.

Why is this in OT?
