No Power to Passenger Door & Reduced Power Warning
Last night I went to roll my windows up on my 01 vert, and my passenger side door was dead. Window would not roll up, lock would not work...using either control on either door or the window down/Tano release button (the driver's side worked fine).
I called my father and he looked it up for me and found something about shaking the rubber accordion wire cover while pushing the window buttons. I tried it, it worked, the window went up, and all was happy for the rest of the night...till my roommate came in plastered, woke me up, but that is another story... Today, the door was out again, but as I was heading off to my folks house, my radio went out, most of my instruments (except for the tach and speedo), and I got a Reduced Engine Power warning. I hooked up my Code Scanner, and there were no codes, I shook the Accordion while the car was running and my instruments came back and radio came back on. So, now that I am STILL job hunting, and any super major repair will park the car for a while, am I have a Murphy's Law problem and anything that can go wrong with the car is going wrong, OR are all these things linked together by something stupid like crimped wire? |

I'm no expert but you got a bad ground somewhere, most likely where the wires for the door go. Again, I am no expert.

Pull the accordian tube away from the door jam and you will see where the connectors are. You should see one(or more) of them showing bare wire near the connector. Tape em up, or use silicone sealant, and all should be well again.

Opened the accordian, and played with the wires, I could not get to a connector, but I was to afraid to pull to hard cause I know with my luck I would have caused a whole new problem.
But since jiggling the wires I have had not issues so far, so at least I know where the problem lies if it happens again. Thanks for the insight!! |

Joe,
You can pull the wires out a bit before you have to worry. There is some excess in there. There is one particular wire in the connector that comes loose. Not inside the connector, but where the wire enters the connector. The secondary problem sounds like a ground. The 2 under the hood on the frame towards the headlights are the typical culprits. If you don't have it fixed by next weekend, maybe we could meet up at the barn (Gary Dependent) or someplace mutually acceptable and I could look at it. Jim |

I had A LOT of problems with this, I taped up the connections which helped for a while, I cleaned and re-seated all the wires -- helped for a while..but pretty much everytime it rained I was SOL again. I replaced the door harness and have seemingly fixed all the problems associated with that!
