New Goodyear R compounds...
Anybody tried them?
We'll see how they compare to the Hoosier and the Kuhmo at Mid Ohio in a few weeks! |

Guess I never followed up on this one did I?
Well, my un-expert review of these tires is that they are 100% as advertised. I haven't run them at a track where I can compare lap times to the Hoosiers, Kuhmos, or BFGs that I have had on it in the past, but I can say that by the seat of the pants, these are right on par with the Hoosiers and way above the others. The fast lap seems to be a little less than the Hoosier R6, but unlike the R6 (at least on my car) they didn't seem to fall off at all when they got hot and were much more concistent through a heat cycle than the R6. I have never run Hoosiers at Mid Ohio, but I could run lap after lap without getting the greasy feeling that I get out of the Hoosiers. I did have to run a little less pressure in them than I do with the R6 to get the feel I liked. The one complaint (a small one) that I have is that until you get them scrubbed in they are absolutely SCARY slick. I actually almost dumped the car exiting the pits at Mid Ohio when I wasn't on the gas any harder than I would be in a street car. After about a lap, they were great. |
