I never...in my wildest dreams...would've predicted that a $10k Beetle would one day be considered cheap.

edit....and I still would rather spend that money on a Manx.

No kidding. We used to buy them for a few hundred bucks. They were essentially disposable cars back in the '70s and '80s.

I had a hand in disposing of more than one.

We had a '66 with 12v and a later 1500 (jugs, head work, cam, etc) that we used to deliver parts. Got in a race one night with a Fiat X1/9. Race went on forever, and the traffic around us didn't even know we were racing.

No shit! In Beetles I've had a few, two '67s, a '69, currently have a '72 Super as well as 'Bloob' (Bloob Eatle, Bloob Ommer, Bloob Uggie), the Manx I have now had for 12 years and if you want it, you'll have to kill me first.

10K?.......more money than brains I say! Like Dude says we used to buy them and throw them away after a year. Or if you were lucky you got one with a gas heater so you wouldn't feeze to death in the winter and they happened to "catch" fire in the spring, so you could collect the insurance. .....

No heater?......In the winter I used to wear a skidoo suit and use a credit card to keep the windshield clear.... on the inside.

My sis and 2 kids in back seat were damn near killed back when, BIL got one of the first stainless ball/socket transplant joints in his left leg/hip due to the collision on a 2 lane bridge, some ASSwhole was passing like 3+ cars and ran outta room, head on.......Sis had a heavy scar in her forehead for years after, it finally receded into her scalp after many years........

I don't see and have never seen any attraction to those POS cars.....

they have NO attractive attribute except to hippy types that never had a job enough to afford anything better.....

the older ones were easily converted to 12v operation; mainly by replacing the starter motor, ign coil, headlamps & bulbs.

Yes, I converted a '66 back in the day. The wipers were the hard part.
