Toothless is going racing...

At the 11th hour, my co-driver, and my ride backed out of racing on the national tour in Georgia this weekend. Bookkeeping shenanigans, and corona virus BS, so I'm out of a ride.

Consulted GWiz, she pinged her car thinking there was a spot for me...there wasn't. Thought about bringing up the '09 Z06 and running A-Street on shit tires, but would be a waste of time.

Toothless is sitting on proper rubber, so away he goes. I'll be in him on RE71R tires in DS. What a shit situation, but I have to be at the track regardless due to GWiz competing.

Toothless is her 2015 BRZ that we gave her when she was 16. It's her forever car when she graduates Georgia Tech. Happy to have a competitive car to drag up to Georgia. Bone stock, planning to lose, but better than the bone stock Z06 on shit tires.

To make it worse, I spent $1,600 on some used rims and brand new competitive Yokohama tires for the STX class I would have been in. Hmmm....nice investment. This guy thinks he's switching over to my C8 when it gets here....sorry, think again.

Shit on it Craig, make the best of a less than ideal situation... go out there and have a good time. Enjoy Wiz's company, and run the best time you have in the car you have available. Winning isn't always about the trophy... she's going to spread her wings for real shortly so get some quality time in NOW.

At the end of the day, that's what it's about. I also considered trailering up empty and not racing. Just to hang out and support her. What we lose is trailering her Miata home and sharing the truck cab together. We'll be in 2 different cars, but her Miata, without working A/C, will be on the trailer, and her BRZ will be under her control. I have an entire set of rims/tires for her car should something go south over the weekend.

Sounds like your head is on straight. Who cares how you race? You have quality time with your daughter doing something you both enjoy. Yeah, you'll be in separate cars on the way home, but you'll still be together.

My daughter is 33, almost 34, and I treasure any time we get to spend together on father/daughter outings.

You are lucky to have numerous cars to take to the track and to be able to spend it with your daughter doing something that you both enjoy and enjoy doing it together.

So while I was trailering Toothless up to the event, GWiz's co-driver called me and said his ride had opened up, as his brother could no longer attend the event due to out of state travel for health professionals in Florida.

OK, I just towed Toothless up, and I accepted the ride to be his tire warmer, and we practiced today. I SUCKED!!!!

His car is the SSC spec class running on Falken tires and I can't drive his car. I could with time and practice, but getting 4 laps today and trying to produce tomorrow and Sunday wasn't going to happen.

I had 2 tickets for runs left, and I said fuck it. Toothless is a 100% bone stock 2015 BRZ on 3 year old Bridgestone Pontenza RE71R tires. It runs in a different class, a much lesser class, but it drives like what I know. I'm a "bull in a china shop" driver. I toss and turn, and expect a lot out of the car and the tires.

Long story short, I was 3/4 seconds faster in GWiz's car on these old tires than I was in the SSC car. When we came up, Toothless was racing, then he wasn't, now he is again.

I will still get my ass kicked in this class, but I should still be able to have some fun. I'm on the wrong tires, in the wrong car, but let's see what happens. I have at least 5 Honda Civic Type R cars on the proper Yokohama tires, and I'm down over 100 HP over those cars. Sad thing is I HAVE THE PROPER TIRES in my truck bed, but they are on rims too wide for stock. They were meant for my original ride in the STX class.

At the end of the day, I'm now here to have fun, and will have way more fun in a car, my daughter's car, than I would have in the free SSC ride. If all I had to drive was the SSC car, I would have backed out and not wasted the rubber. In Toothless, I feel I can tear it up, and maybe have a shot at a respectable finish. My C8 can't get here fast enough. My big ass needs POWER...AND ROOM. I don't fit in these goofy little cars.

Jury is out. He was fucking fantastic. Factory stock car, no alignment, no swaybar, and I had no clue what his tire pressures were. No expectations going in, but he might be able to do something pretty amazing. If I don't finish DFL, that will be a win. If I trophy, that will be a fun story to share.

My C8 can't get here fast enough. I'm tired of other people's rides. I need my sledgehammer back.

I paid off all of my cars, I have no car payments, and now I want my C8. That will come....the new engine will come shortly too.

At the end of the day, it's just cash priorities. GWiz's college is paid for now, so now I can spread my wings a little bit more. I just can't do it all with the snap of a finger.
