So Geraghty Anne finished 3 of 4 drivers in SSC ladies class. The two women who beat her finished 1-2 at the National Championships in Lincoln, NE last year. They are the real deal. She was in 4th place after day one, sharing the car with Linda Duncan (Howard Duncan's wife...has been the lead of SCCA autocross forever).
On Sunday, GWiz ran a flyer lap, with Linda's coaching, and Linda couldn't match the lap. BUT, GWiz, wiggled the ass on launch and hit a starting cone, and yes they count too. Regardless, Linda couldn't put in a clean run in all 3 runs and GWiz finished 3rd. That was a win for her. Her times were exceptional for a kid who has done 5 autocross events in the last year, 3 of them being National Tour events. She doesn't have the seat time that us regulars do. More impressive however, she finished 4th of 14 ladies in PAX time. Not bad for a n00b. All 3 ladies in front of her have national championship jackets. Onto me.... So I took Toothless up to run in D-Street. Toothless is GWiz's 2015 BRZ...bone stock. On the way up, Mike Lawson (one of my club members) indicated that a ride had opened in his SSC car. (same class that GWiz races in, and she runs Mike's car). I fully planned on racing his car, and not hers, but on practice day, I realized that there was no way in HELL I could drive his car. The Solo Spec Coupe class is a class for the BRZ/FRS twins and is truly a spec class and the tires come from Falken. Those tires are SO BAD that I found the car un-driveable. While braking and turning right, the car pushed left....total shit. For giggles, I took 2 more practice laps in GWiz's car and was 0.75 seconds faster. So I entered GWiz's car in DS and ran it. Little did I know that DS is crowded with Ford Focus RS's (350 hp) and Honda Civic Type R (306 hp), with a sprinkle of Subaru WRX STI's with over 300 hp. My lowly stock BRZ has 200 hp and no torque. I held my own, but still ended up in 8th place of 10 cars. The top 7 drivers finished pretty much in order of horsepower. Now the interesting part...I have run the STX class in a buddy's BRZ for the last 2 years, and he's the one that bailed on me. My time in D-street on bullshit tires, and bone stock alignment was 1/1000th of a second out of 4th place in the STX class. My STX car has an additional 30 hp, less weight, and a higher rev limiter. GWiz's car is still bone stock. Top 3 positions got trophies. Sad thing is I had the 9" wheels and the best rubber on the planet in the bed of my truck at the venue. I could have EASILY trophied, possibly won if I entered STX class instead of D-Street, but I would have had my first National Tour win in STX if my co-driver actually showed up. Cliffs: Course was fast, car was in the wrong class, GWiz kicked ass and gained serious street cred. |

That was a nice run, I can see a few area's that show her skill, smooth transistion and a great lines. Couple of hiccups around the slaloms, but I notice an improvement from the last time I saw G drive several months back.
I need to buy some tires and align my Z off the street alignemnt and go have some fun. |
