Back in the '60's the military hosted many "On The Base" Boy Scout outings where we stayed overnight in the barracks. (recruitment) Offut AFB, SAC headquarters, near Omaha, Nebraska is somewhat close to Kansas City. Offut was one of our favorite outings. We would always coordinate a weekend where the B52's would be on a training exercise with several landings and takeoffs. Fort Riley (Kansas) home of the Big Red One was also a favorite, we got to shoot guns and crawl around in tanks there! |
