Default Wedding ring

I've posted before how I dropped a ball of hot solder on my ring finger and two days later had to cut the ring off.

Well the other day I made an appointment with a local metalworking artist, recommended to me by a friend. Baby Doll and I went to his studio, which is in the basement of the home that he built. It's not a big house but impressive in both architecture (unique, but classic) and execution (post and beam, oak pegs).

We were led down into the basement workshop. Well organized. I counted at least 7 different anvils- all polished hardened steel. Countless metalworking hammers on the wall behind a 16' long steel bench. A power hammer. Lathes. Clean, but not so clean that work is actually done there.

His assistant was working on the die for a custom chalice, to be made from old sterling ware. He was in the process of refining the silver, since it had impurities in it that made it unworkable for the project.

I told him that my tastes are simple, and I want something very durable; I don't typically take my ring off to work. We agreed on a 1/4" wide titanium band with gold from the 100 year old ring shaped and soldered onto the outside. He mentioned some patterns to be worked into the titanium, and I told him that "you're the artist".

Timeline: "sometime this spring".

I have no idea how much this will cost.

I was helping a neighbor with his boat trailer and spring replacement and the dumb SOB lowered "dumped" the jack and my ring finger was in a crucial spot and got mashed (not broken) and my finger swelled so much the wife had to cut my gold wedding ring of 45 years off with a Dremel. A jeweler easily fixed it.

I would NOT go titanium because you are an active guy and what my wife did wouldn't work with titanium; you're not cutting one off with a dremel.

"Rings made of gold or silver are easily removed with basic ring cutters; in contrast, titanium rings require specialist cutting equipment such as dental saws, drills or diamond tipped saws. These techniques can take up to 15 min to divide the ring, can burn the underlying skin, require an assistant to provide irrigation, and may not be available within all hospitals at all times."

I haven't worn my wedding ring but a few times since we've been married. Rings and being an active DIY fabricator, electrician, woodworker, handyman, don't mix.

I actually have a wedding ring question.

I keep seeing more and more people wearing colored wedding rings. Often black, but sometimes blue or other colors as well. It started with young people, but now I'm even seeing them on people close to my own age. Why the change from physical gold? What are they made from? Is this a gay thing that I'm not aware of? Is it just a trend?

I may have worn my wedding ring for 20-30 minutes on wedding day. Took it off and have never worn it again.

In my line of work wearing a ring or any jewelry would be a mistake. Good thing I'm not an accountant or I'd have to come up with another viable excuse because I do not like jewelry. This included watches and bracelets and neck chains.

J has never worn his wedding ring. He told me before we got married that he wouldn’t be wearing it due to work. It wasn’t an issue with me. Son’s wedding ring is somewhere in Jackson Hole.

I do a lot of work with my hands as well and have even been known to build stuff. The only time my wedding ring comes off is when I'm running a lathe.

1. You only get one wedding ring. If you lose it or damage and have it "rebuilt" it's not the ring you were given on your wedding day. It's a fake.

2. My wedding ring has grown to be a part of my finger, I'd have to cut off my finger to get it off!

3. Jews don't use diamonds on our wedding rings, a simple gold band.

I have a band somewhere, it came off permanently when got it caught and tried to rip my finger off. Cut the finger to the bone, yes I still have the scar.
It had alot of scars and burn marks on it anyway.
If I wear it again it'll be on a chain around neck.
