Never really understood why people would rent those things, fill them up with all manner of crap, and them continue to pay for the privilege of storing it for years and years. As I get older, I try to go through my stuff and toss what I no longer need. No hoarder here.

and then the stuff turns worthless; stops paying monthly rate, stuff gets auctioned off for pennies-on-the-dollar.

Never had one myself.

Heard the wife got one when I kicked her out to keep all her crap in. Must have been a double wide considering she was hauling truckloads of stuff away for almost a week No idea how she expected to pay for it (or them) without being able to cash my paychecks anymore but it's quite likely she already had some other sucker lined up to rob blind.

We have one for artwork we occasionally rotate out, and some other personal things that we don't want to toss. The storage unit is climate controlled, and some of what we have in there would get ruined if stored in our garage or attic. In the grand scheme of things it's pennies that we don't miss.

Paying more in storage than the shit is worth pure genius.

If you can't eat it, sell it or **** it, get rid of it.

If that is all the stuff there is, it should fit in the corner of some room in the basement. Make sure to archive all the Yadkin Chronicles you apparently have stored in the photo albums.

I could only justify a storage unit for a vehicle, or vehicle parts.
I keep six rims, six tires, and 12 rims with tires in my 3-car garage, this is about the limit.
The wifey complains, but when I have both doors opened the neighbors say I look like a real baller!!

Should I get her a She Shed??

As I recall anything over 10 square feet here is taxed. Might as well make it a pole barn because you'd just be renting it from the city anyway.

My house is two-story, 3,000 under air, 3-car garage and 500-ft porch under roof,,, leaves very little space for anything.

If I got her a She Shed it would be about 50 sqft, tucked behind landscaping so the HOA would not ask for its removal.

The only times I've ever rented a storage unit were when I was selling a house and needed to de-clutter very quickly. For that purpose they are extremely useful.

But if you use one to expand your hoarding capacity you have some serious mental issues.

I use mine to support my minor hoarding affliction.

I'm self-treating for it and hope to be fully recovered by summer.

Mine has car parts, furniture, camping stuff, and remnants of hobbies I no longer participate in.

LOL...I have TWO of those damn Nordic-Tracks. They never die.

IMO, if you need a storage unit to store your stuff, you have too much stuff.
I said it in another post, but my older brother has spent about $45,000 over the past 30-ish years storing about $1500 worth of crap.

You live in quote "God's country" yet don't have room for a storage area in a shop or some other storage onsite?

Damn...next you'll mention nearby neighbors...oh wait.

Here if a shed is 10x10 (100 sq ft) and or made of wood you pay a bit more in taxes....I used to tell people to make it 11X9 (99 sq ft) if they were building it . (which I still don't understand)

I may have misrepresented that. I meant 10'x10', so the square footage would be 100 sq ft. Sorry, my brain isn't used to taking floor space into consideration

Sometimes it isn't the quantity of things, it is the size of them. I have two complete car interiors and several camping coolers. They take up too much space in my house or garage and I don't need them daily or even monthly. Tents only get used in the summer, Water skis, lifejackets, paint sprayer, wheels, etc.

If the storage places would schedule a "dump day" I could trim it all down, but that works against their business model.
