Default Quote for the new Z06 engine

19 grand.

Was expecting 12-13 grand, so have to re-evaluate what I'm doing with the '08. I'm not paying a 50% premium due to inflation. I may consider selling the car as is, returning it back to stock and selling it. Not sure at the moment, but not spending 20k for a long block, only to follow with the expected 2-4k of additional expenses to make it run. Kind of not sure what's next.

Happy as hell to have my '09 garage queen that's worth in the 50-55k range, but clearly a track car won't have that value. Call it 35K? Putting 24-25k into it makes no sense. Sad thing is the chassis only has 17k on it. It's basically a new car.

Musta missed something. Did you blow up the original engine?

Mine's idiot proof apparently. Drove it home 30 miles on a busted valve spring hoping I'd need a new engine but no such luck.

No.

This is a BUILT engine. You can no longer buy a stock LS7, and the previous quote was going to start with a 5.3 and bore and sleeve it. Now they can only start with an LS3, so it just continues to escalate.

Protecting factory stock LS7's is going to add significant value down the road, thus the '09 is a keeper. '08 is a different story. If I could get the long block for even 15k, then I'd move forward, but the math starts to get fuzzy at this level.

For that 25k investment, plus what I can sell the car outright for, or part it out, I can buy a brand new car to run as my long term autocross car. C8 Z06 will not be subjected to that abuse.

My friend's split window has an LS7 in it along with some sort of aftermarket supercharger and sold last January for 1/3 of a million dollars at Mecum - its the silver car in my driveway. A Mike Coletta build for those that know him.

Beautiful car for sure, and one to die for. The fact that you can no longer ever purchase a crate LS7 adds to the value of all those that have one.

My track car is a bastard. Non numbers matching, having blown up 2 engines, making the decision as to what's next is what I have to figure out.

The 500+ hp Supra is just around the corner, and as a previous multi-Supra owner, it has my attention. Still getting the C8 Z06, but I need something to race. Another option is an Arial Atom.

Keep going and you might catch up to the number of clutch replacements I had to do before wising up and installing a stronger clutch.

Something I may consider is to just keep it as a parts car for the '09. It's got the in-dash nav system, and is equally equipped. That's certainly on the table.

Based on GWiz's Miata experience, simply keeping it as a parts car to support my '09 into the next 20 years may be the best option. I have a free garage space next door in my brother-in-law's house, hell, I have 2 spaces, but one will go to Baymax, the white Miata.

Car owes me nothing, been paid for for over a decade, so maybe a better approach it to pursue something new with those funds. Again, just speculating....

Correct.

And as I am discussing with my daughter, I'm now seriously considering just making it a parts car for my '09. I'll have 20+ years of spare parts for my '09. I have a garage space next door to store it.

$80,000 parts car after 17k miles.

After I get the C8 Z06, hopefully next September, I'm now shifting my focus toward the 2025 Toyota GRMN Supra or Arial Atom.

An Atom would be tons of fun but I can't past the thought of an offroad excursion.
Probably end up looking like I went through a cheese grater.

I made a small fortune in racing...but I started with a large fortune.

Parts car is now my front running decision. Once you get past the 80K I paid for the car, everything else is just a variable. Throwing another 25k at it is starting to make no sense. I'm keeping the '09 forever, and GWiz will take ownership of it, but all the body parts, suspension parts, clutch, diff, will pay massive dividends over the next 20 years. Christ, I still have the factory seats, AND brand new factory Z06 skins to install on them.

BTW, just finished watching the MEG 2. What a stupid ****ing movie. Don't waste your time.

Shit, I can cancel the insurance and save a ton of money too, but I don't want to lose the personalized plate. Will continue to pay the insurance until I can move the plate to something new.

I spent about 14k on the build for my '64 FE engine, and that doesn't include my labor. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy when I step on the loud pedal, so it was worth every penny in a car that might be worth $30k.

OP,

Keep it as a parts car for your 09. Everything from hard parts to especially the ecm/bcm will be hard to source for the 09 down the road, so having that in the bank is nice. And forget about sunk costs. They're sunk - and not worth your time even thinking about.

Get the Atom. Then you'll have a real track car. For the track.

And definitely get the C8 Z06. Have had mine for about two months. Very entertaining rig.
