Default window a/c experts/ electrical experts

My window a/c just quit. I pulled the plug out and felt something sticky wet on the side of the plug. Is there liquid inside the reset part? It will not reset. a/c not working. As you know from the other thread, I do not have money for this. Do I get to tough it out until next spring?

Not sure why there would be anything liquid on the plug, unless something fried/melted etc.

Window AC units aren't that expensive. Go donate plasma if you are broke and save up.

If I donated plasma, the money would go to curing Riley.

The plug is behind a table that has my printer on it. I don't see how anything wet got to it.

Just handled the plug, it appears the liquid came out of the plug. Some was running down the cord. It's sticky and somewhat thick. Not molasses, but not water thin.

I'm sorry buddy, didn't know about your other troubles.

AC's 'leak' water/condensation, but with a window unit that should be outside...not sure how it would get inside. Odd.

Is it tilted so the back (outside ) is lower ? Is the drain clear?

The other stuff plugged into that same spot still works?? if so, try plugging into the other outlet on that recepticle....if it still works, the electric is fine.....

so to change the plug on the a/c unit....sounds like it's fried from heating up due to bad connection, if the section of the outlet the a/c was in is bad....try the a/c in the good socket.....maybe one leg of the power got hot due to bad connection and that spade on the plug would change color...darker....

new outlet is about 10-15 bux at most that's IF it is a GFI.....new plug for a/c unit about 5 bux at most....

There is no drainage coming in. The only part that had that wet sticky fluid was right at the plug. The plug looks normal. The battery backup it was plugged into is working fine.

Can you wiggle one of the plug blades ? If so, there is a possibility the compound that makes up the plug has melted.

It would be really helpful if you'd post a pic.

If the power outlet still works, cut the plug off and wire a new, heavy duty plug to the a.c. wire you just cut. Maybe cut off

Looks like a 10 AMP GFCI plug, quick search on Amazon shows them to be about 20 bucks. Worth a shot.

probably a capacitor on the GFCI electronics or melted varnish on a winding. I would just replace the plug

2 questions : Was the plug upside down while plugged in ? In other words, the ground (round pin) was on the top ?
Was the plug hot when you took it out of the receptacle ?

I got the new plug, but when I took the old one apart, extra wire that the directions say nothing about. My new plug doesn't come apart the same. I cannot get into the circuit board without breaking the plug. What do I do now?
