I vote Enzo gets the exploder for free but he has to pay to fix the tranny...cheaper than a different shitbox and you know the laundry list of new parts on it.

At our age (okay I know I'm older than you) the 3K car is the new $300 car.

I get requests all the time for "cheap" cars. I refuse to sell anything under $5k, and even that's usually pushing it.

Could be a scam, but they do list a local phone number, which is unusual if it is a scam.

Seems reasonable.....110,000 miles? Got some life left.

Price is right, and you were gonna rebuild a transmission anyway, right?

Last year I sold a pretty nice '08 Camry with 106K on it for $6,500. Single mom going to community college living with her family. Nice kid. She was driving a Jetta with 300K on it.

Which brings up another point. It wasn’t all that long ago and 50,000 miles was about all you’d want to put on a vehicle. Trade in value tanked above 50k.

And then there’s the rust issue. If you did drive it until it died usually body disintegrated.

These days 100,000 miles is common. 25 years ago you wouldn’t touch something with those miles.

Engineering tolerances and Metallurgy are much better now. Oil quality and hair products are better as well.

Exploder is experiencing cascading failure. It’s done.

Sure. My kid should spend 1/3 of his savings. You are a financial genius.

My son is paying his own way through college. He should not spend more than $3k on a first car which he will destroy anyway. I’m paying for minor suspension, brakes and a timing belt change on a 2010 Chrysler Sebring. He is paying for the car.

Part of me feels bad that I’m not buying a car for him but the part of me that is a good parent thinks it’s better that he buys it himself.

Picking it up tomorrow.

Then we start searching for another car for $8-10k

Cars are a waste of money. I could go finance one or even lease through the company but I just don’t want to spend money on cars. But I’m no financial genius.

I paid for my first and every car and I think it makes a person more responsible, my siblings had cars bought for them and well . As for a $3K car, it will be a lot of work but could be a good way for your son to learn how to work on cars

I applaud you're sensibility.
Thank you for the compliment.
Another pro tip.
If you see a better car than the Sebring come up for a reasonable price, buy it and sell the Sebring.Keep trying to trade up for the least cost possible until your son has a reliable car that won't nickel & dime him.
Did you ever think of swallowing some Rector Seal for that pin hole ?
Bad joke. Get well man !!!
