Default Whatcha tink?

My friend is selling this 1974 C10. His grandpa bought it new. Has some surface rust and dents. It is a 77k orig miles,SWB, 350, auto. My opinion is dents aren't nowhere near as bad or troublesome as rust holes. This one has no holes in it. Panels gaps look even and good to me. Tailgate has a big dent. I've really wanted a '72ish SWB for several years. Now it seems you can't touch them for under $15k. Even these square bodies are getting crazy prices and popularity. The things that appeal to me about this one - SWB, 1 owner since new, no rust holes, 350/auto. If i get it I would leave it all original and maybe try a dentless repair on the panels. I love and will pay a premium for originality vs. restored.

Do you want to venture at some prices? What would you pay? What do you think it's worth? Do you want me to tell you the asking price? I think it's a little high...but, several factors after looking at these trucks for several years makes me think it is worth the asking price. I won't leave you in suspense for long...throw me some prices that you think would be fair.

$5000.00 based on a 100% random guess with zero knowledge or research.

I like that body style, but I prefer the later years, since I personally had an '84. Of that series, I'd like an '87, the first year of fuel injection.

How's the interior? What does it look like under the hood? Any leaks or other issues underneath?

If it looks good every where else and everything works, it is probably worth around $7500, maybe more depending on the area.

I've got two square bodies. '77 and '86. Both are nearly flawless. The '77 is worth around $12,000 and the '86 around $15,000.

I’m guessing the asking price is $11.5K, what’s it worth, that is up to you. I like those trucks too, but for me I’d want one restored and mint

I like the '86 because it is the last year of the carb.

$6k...unsure of how much he will negotiate. So many things appeal to me about it that I may have to pay his asking price. It's also practically in my backyard and has spent it's life here adult owned.

I've been after him for several years. He has a '69 C10, SWB, 6/3spd with nary a lick of rust on it. It also belonged to his dad or grandpa. All original! He won't part with it for sentimental reasons right now...but, maybe later. I saw him in the store yesterday and asked him about it and that's how I learned about the '74.

I think it needs a $300.00 tailgate and a $5K paint job after since whatever you do to that tailgate it is never going to look like it came with the truck originally. Then the interior will look bad because it isn't as fresh as the exterior. And the engine bay will need freshening because every time you open the hood......
If you truly value; and are willing to pay a premium for originality I would look for a better preserved example.

$6k is about what that condition go for around here. (based on the pics in the OP)

I'd try and haggle some, but would buy a one owner in that condish for that price.

I want to leave it original. I even thought about getting a replacement tailgate and just welding in the damaged section. Then not going for a perfect paint match (44 year old paint, fading, etc) something close would be fine with me to preserve the originality

I spent countless hrs. preserving vs. restoring this Z50 lol I went through 4 layers of paint/primer and a half gallon of thinner to get back down to the factory paint.

Here's some numbers.

http://www.collectorcarmarket.com/co...c10-value.html

If you're going to just use it as a hooptee, beater, mulch getter, wouldn't pay much. To restore it, wouldn't pay much either, will dump a ton in it if wanting to make it a looker.

I understand now. You are looking for a preservation project, not a ready to enjoy toy. This truck is remarkably whole for the year, and is certainly worthy of some attention. Beautiful work on that Z also!

Help!

I haven't done a thing to it since buying it. I was driving it the other week and for several days and miles with no problems. Then it just died on me while driving. I coasted into a vacant farm field and it wouldn't start. It just shut off while driving. I went back a couple of hours later and it fired right up and I got it back home. It wasn't too hot and I hadn't been in any stop and go traffic. I was thinking vapor lock? But I have never experienced it and unsure if that's the problem. I bought a new set of points, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. It had a new coil on it when I bought it. I haven't cleaned the carb or anything. Does it sound like vapor lock or something else?

Thanks.
