I see dudes and chicks running in the goofy shoes all the time. About 99% of them are slow runners and out of shape. I wouldn't have a problem with them if the people wearing them were running at a decent clip.
I did an off-road 5K trail race two weeks ago. The first 3/4 of a mile was down a dirt/rock road before going into the woods. At the start line I heard a couple people saying they probably wore the wrong shoes for the race. You think? They say running on rocks and other debris hurt the feet in the goofy shoes.

I've also run with guys wearing these goofy shoes (as I call them) and every time we went from the sidewalk or running path to the street (step down) they were always very cautious as the step actually hurts their feet. Just wear some damn running shoes and keep up. I'm the older guy running all these young Marines.
