What is "Scrapple?"
Is it something akin to sausage or perhaps, or souse meat / head cheese? I've seen it in stores.......just curious. |

The better scrapples only use the best quality meat. The only real secret to cooking scrapple is not to mess with it while cooking if you like the golden crust. Let it go for 8 minutes ( adjust time according to heat ) and flip it over to cook the other side. Some people like it with apple butter or catsup/ketsup. |

Scrapple - Scrapple and pon haus are commonly considered an ethnic food of the Pennsylvania Dutch, including the Mennonites and Amish.
Grew up Mennonite. We called it pon haus - is traditionally a mush of pork scraps and trimmings combined with cornmeal and flour, often buckwheat flour, and spices. The mush is formed into a semi-solid congealed loaf, and slices of the scrapple are then panfried before serving. Scraps of meat left over from butchering, not used or sold elsewhere, were made into scrapple to avoid waste. I had an egg, cheese, ham, and toast sandwich with coffee. Carl - I hate to ask what is that a pic of? |
