Trees down in my area on my street and apparently a tornado hit the area. No damage to the house or property.

Busted ass this week on framing punch out. And set windows.
And serious bust ass today we set two 6-0x8-0 French glass entry doors. Heavy and awkward some-bitches but the effort paid off because they look awesome and they are level, plumb, racked, cross checked with lines for square. Glued, shimmed and screwed.

Yes, the doors (and windows) must be installed specifically to the manufacturer install directions. And now I will have a building department inspection on the install. After inspection I will do 6” peel & stick around the perimeter of the windows (flange). Then header flashing before siding and trim.

Here it comes!

So, are building codes stricter in areas like yours which are prone to severe weather on a regular basis? Or if not, is construction done for prevention voluntarily? Lets say roofing/shingles and such which always seems to blow off but then with your home being surrounded by trees, could help as a wind block

Florida has probably the strongest building code in the country. Especially for residential construction. Not a lot of volunteering going on or necessary. The cost is already insane.

All building materials used for the building envelope, both structural and aesthetic, must be an approved product. This includes foundation and framing and siding and windows and roofing, etc.

Having trees close to the house is foolish. They are no match for the wind and can be a serious threat to the building.

As I recall, I think you cleared them back far enough not to fall on the house.

I did. There's a couple more I'm going to take down. One is a dead pine and another next to it that's not dead but both are a little close for comfort. And a small oak (25-30 footer) that we want to keep and is in a great spot with a small magnolia next to it...they look good but the oak has the potential to be a problem.
