Ya, It's BS that I can't carry in parts of my own state, I know, but it is what it is for now.
Anyway, will this stop in Long Island pose a problem with the law?

Personally I would not be carrying in that case. Places like NYC and DC get pretty radical with their anti freedom laws and application thereof. Like that poor soul in DC who is getting prosecuted for having a shotgun shell in his home. With stuff like that going on, there's no way to anticipate how laws will be applied.

As uncomfortable as it makes me feel, I throw the dice and take my chances with the rest of the sheep when I go into DC.

According to the lady at Jet Blue, I won't be technically carrying as we pass through JFK in NY, and it will be basically a shipped item, so there will be no problem.

Best bet is to put the gun in a smaller hardcase, like the one your gun came from the factory in. Lock that case and put it into your bigger checked luggage.

Just my opinion, but a Zero Halliburton case just presents too much temptation for theft. I'd just use a ratty old suitcase. There is no need for the outer case to be a hard case and also, the outercase should have a TSA friendly lock or they will pry off the lock to inspect inside.

It was nooo problem.
Checked it, and picked it up at my destination on the belt, just like luggage.
They just needed ID and filled out a 4 line ticket and stuck it on the locked box.
I then put the box inside the metal case, locked it, and off it went.
It was a non event for all intents and purposes.
