Default Tell me about Shih Tzu dogs quick please

Saw a little black and white dog running in the middle of a busy road that is in front of where I work. I parked and ran inside to tell the boss I was going back to get the dog. The other secretary came with me and we got her. She sat down in the middle of the road. The school bus that had just unloaded kids at our school stopped traffic for us. I sent emails to the other schools in our area and asked some kids that live in the neighborhood by the school. No one has claimed her. She got a bath at school and let us dry her with the hairdrayer. She was dirty but didn't seem too hungry or malnourished. I came home and got a crate. She walked in the crate and slept in the office most of the day. Took her to vet's office and no microchip. So she came home from school with me! What kind of doggy food should I get her? Our custodian went to the store on her break and got kibbles and bits but she wouldn't eat it.

How big is she? Puppy, adult? Probably soft food.

If she's refusing any kind of food, she was probably a pampered house pet very recently. A cheap method to get a dog to eat any kind of food is to crack a raw egg on it. She may just be too frightened to eat anything for awhile.
They make wonderful pets, they are strictly house dogs, and the only down sides to them is they need lots of grooming and they have notoriously small bladders. People say they are "difficult to housebreak", but the small blader is the real reson for that.
I hope you can reunite her with her owner. I'm sure someone misses her very much.

Adult female, about 10 pounds. We've never had a little fru-fru dog before. Contacted the humane society and they are going to list her on their lost and found site. They said she may be lost from the tornado! It's been 2 weeks today since the big tornado.

Feed her some bacon, I never met a dog that didn't like bacon.

I've had big dogs all my life, and never wanted little fluffy dog, but inherited my MIL's shih tzu when she passed. We absolutely love her! Extremely personable, sweet and in her own little way, she's very protective - except when Chef comes over. She absolutely adores him!

The Shih Tzu breed is a very old breed. Animal Planet had a segment on Dogs 101 that will give you a little more information on the dogs.

Thanks! The last dog we had was a Jack Russell and she lived up to her breed.

Mom had one for 12 years, dumber than a box of rocks. Sharp teeth and aren't afraid to use them.

Tough feisty little critters. There was one at the lake that used to stand up on it's hind legs and get in the face of a neighbors Doberman! And guard the street against any strangers that came up the road. Stand right in the middle of the road on it's hind legs and bark, It was hilarious, until she tangled with a wolf or coyote! It' dragged itself home one day with it's guts hanging out, and died when it got home, tough little bugger!........

She slept all night. No accidents. We didn't lose our noses! She only ate a few bites of Pedigree small breed dry and a bite of Cesar wet food last night.
My principal called and said to bring her back to school today. The cats are not amused!

OK...I gotta tell ya...I HATED these dogs. But this one is the most adorable little dog ever. Now...that said, Doug and Beth keep her extremely well groomed, which is what I strongly suggest. No one likes a smelly dog and it's been my experience that many Shih Tzu owners let their pets turn into a Swiffer duster. Not a good thing.

I can't say I'd even have one of my own, but FluffButt is a gem.

Default I hate polyester/nylon rope.....!

Everytime I handle even slightly frayed rope like this, I end up with little invisible slivers in my fingers. Can't even see 'em to pull 'em out!...aggghhhh

Gotta remember to wear the stupid gloves.....
