This is a classic example of poor parenting. (not to mention this kid got caught up in an acid drug scandal at the school and mommy and daddy's money got it brushed under the rug). SO MANY Seniors try and pad their resumes in their senior year by joining more clubs.

GWiz has been the STEM leader for her entire 4 years at the school, and LOVES being on the team. Most all of her in school affiliations (Cross Country, Principal's list, ....) have been 4 year deals. Naturally, the National Honors Society doesn't kick in until later, but she's an officer in that too. I'm pretty sure those in the college applicant review process can figure out the class acts and the posers.

Speaking of which, the Solar Go Kart race isn't far off. Time to start the fund raising effort to send her off to college with another win.

What do we need to do to the cart this year? If we can find some lighter panels that produce equal or more power that would be good. The only other thing that I can think of is the "pit speed" accelerator pedal that we discussed after last year's race.

Regardless, I'll contribute again this year. We need to send her to college as the Two Year Champion.

Solar panels we bought last year are perfect. Pit pedal is a #1 priority. Another extremely important requirement is a 2-way radio system that will allow the drivers to have earbuds inside their helmets and the ability to hear (and speak) to/from us without taking their hands off of the wheel. We wasted an astronomical amount of time in the pits due to not being able to communicate, or control the 10-mph limit.

I'd also like to explore implementing more carbon fiber, specifically the wheels and suspension pieces. The ability to cut the chassis up anymore is forbidden, but what we have done to date is grandfathered in.

We will also purchase a brand new AGM battery for game day so it's fresh. The one that won the event for us last year will be our test battery.

We're going to continue on driver education on race line, and will be reviewing the footage from last year.

Bottom line is we made huge strides in weight reduction last year, as well as motor and battery cooling. You never know what the weather will be, so building the solar concentrators to charge the batteries between the sprint and the endurance races is also still on the table.

I have to dig up my list, as there are more things, but carbon fiber is not cheap, but weight is the enemy. GWiz is 15 pounds lighter than last year.

Craig, I don't think I could be any prouder of her if she was my own kid. You've done an amazing job as a parent, and she is very fortunate to have had the opportunities that she has had. Your girl has her head screwed on straight, and I look forward to seeing her success as she goes through school and ends up doing amazing things. Kudos to all of you!! But dammit, you guys better stop here in WR on your way through!

If you watch "talent" or "fund me" shows on commercial TV, you might be interested in the Georgia Tech version of these shows.

American Idol for Nerds → The InVenture Prize at Georgia Tech
an interdisciplinary innovation competition open to all undergraduate students and recent graduates of the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Created in 2009 and organized by Georgia Tech faculty, the competition brings together student innovators from all academic backgrounds across campus in an effort to foster creativity, invention, and entrepreneurship.

The 2015 show lasts about 1.5 hours.
